Religious Comics In the Book Trade - 10/20/2003 - Publishers Weekly
Christian comics producers are just discovering that graphic books have a longer shelf life and better pricing, says Buzz Dixon, an editor with a background in mainstream comics and Hollywood animation who is trying to launch a Christian graphic magazine, Serenity, for girls ages 12 to 18.
Metron published Testament (Sept. 2003), which tells Old Testament stories in a bar setting and was written by Jim Krueger and illustrated by a team including Ruiz, Jason Alexander and the highly acclaimed Sergio Aragones.
Ruiz says sales are "steadily growing" as Metron tries to generate a reputation for quality, especially in the local New York press, and service both mainstream and Christian audiences.

METRON PRESS PULLS UP STAKES? - NEWSARAMA
Metron Press, an imprint of the American Bible Society (ABS), gave it a try, releasing both Samson and Testament, but, according to former Creative Director Mario Ruiz, the line as it was originally envisioned is dead thanks to internal struggles at ABS.
As Ruiz told Newsarama previously, the idea behind Metron was to tell Bible stories as well as relevant stories that appealed to today’s audiences in a way that wouldn’t come off as preachy — that would serve, as Ruiz saw it, as perhaps the seed of interest in the source material for readers.
Metron’s Testament, for example, had a man getting an introduction to the Bible when, at the end of his rope, he goes to a bar to drink his troubles away.

But in a way, that opening also served as notice to comics fans that the old days of Stan and Jack, the Lee/Kirby team that had revolutionized comics at Marvel, was blown apart, finished, and in its place was a new world, sprung entirely from the muse of Kirby alone.
On the other hand, DC Comics, and particularly Infantino, were known to be openly contemptuous of the Marvel style at that time, and I could certainly envision a situation where they might jump at any opportunity to declare these books unsuccessful, as opposed to giving them more time to build an audience.
Metron created the chair thanks to the X-Element, a rare substance he obtained from Darkseid in exchange for a matter threshold device which Darkseid used to devastate New Genesis in their ongoing war.

Metron Press, the comic book division of the American Bible Society, has lost its creative director due to differences over the press’ direction.
In fact, Ruiz was trying to place Metron’s graphic novels in secular circles, viewing the products as outreach tools—an approach he said ABS supported.
Metron never achieved such a system, he said, despite Metron’s tactic of quickly putting eight new titles into development to make distributors take them seriously.

This is itself a nod to a different comic storyline, as in the funnybooks John Jameson is the Man-Wolf, who becomes a lycanthrope after bringing a cursed moonrock back from a space mission (which was also the symbiote's origin in the more recent Spider-Man: The Animated Series).
In the comics, Marko has nothing to do with Uncle Ben's death, his dad does (sorta), but you gotta have a through-line somewhere, so the film Sandman is implicated in Ben Parker's demise.

Metron Press, an imprint of the American Bible Society, has announced the September publication of Testament, a $12.95, 120-page graphic novel written by Jim Krueger (Earth X) and illustrated by a number of top flight artists including Bill Sienkiewicz, Bo and Scott Hampton, Steve Rude, George Pratt, and many others.
Metron's parent company, the American Bible Society, was founded in 1808 and distributed over 12 million copies of the Old and New Testaments in 2001.

Whereas the comic strip was more of a near-future space race as seen from 1958, the Rocketeers stuff is more fanciful sci-fi, with moonbases, space stations, aliens and journeys to Jupiter.
It's a damn shame that comics of the era got so stingy with the story page counts (going all the way to 17 pages an issue soon after, before that was reversed).

JSA: Darkness Falls [2002] Shaking Through.net: Comics: Review
In JSA, the ongoing monthly superhero comic chronicling the exploits of a modern-day Justice Society of America, DC Comics is staging its own version of Times' climactic rematch.
The Justice Society, DC's first super-team, is revered by fans of comics' storied past, and nostalgic souls are no doubt cheered by the prospect of such Golden Age stalwarts as Jay Garrick and Alan Scott flexing their muscles in today's post-modern climate.
Throughout this series, there's simply too much heavy-handed, out-of-left-field exposition on how such-and-such can be defeated by assembling the pieces of this or that device, and the heroes are simply pawns madly dashing (or carried) from one fight to the next with very little choice in the matter.
