The Meuse-Argonne Offensive was a major battle of World War I.
The objective of the offensive was the railway hub at Sedan, which provided supply support for the german armies in the southeastern sector of the Western Front.
The offensive took place in the Verdun Sector, immediately north and northwest of the town of Verdun, between September 26 - November 11, 1918.

First World War.com - Primary Documents - Erich Ludendorff on the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, 1922
The Meuse-Argonne Offensive, jointly launched by U.S. and French forces on the Western Front in front of the Argonne Forest east of Verdun in late September 1918, comprised one of the key offensives of the war and by the armistice had successfully driven north up the west bank of the Meuse to the Belgian border.
In the big offensive toward Sedan on both sides of the Argonne forest, which French and Americans made together, the American troops had their main forces between the Meuse and the Argonne.
In the Champagne the Germans noticed in time the imminent big attack and organized their defence, between the Meuse and the Argonne.

 WWI Chapter 35
The object of the Meuse-Argonne offensive, said General Pershing in his report of November 20th, 1918, was "to draw the best German divisions to our front and to consume them." This sentence expresses better than any long description not only the object, but also the outcome of the operation.
In the first stages of this advance, they were assisted by the 28th, 32nd and 77th American Division, but, by September 15th, all of these were withdrawn for the coming Meuse-Argonne offensive of the American Army.
The day after the opening of the Oise-Aisne offensive, the British launched the first of a series of attacks in the Ypres sector, which continued, with some interruptions, to the time of the Armistice and may be termed the Ypres-Lys offensives.
