The scrap tires were removed and reused as tire derived fuel (TDF) in a local cement plant as a result of a collaboration agreement among EPA, Mexico’s Environment Secretariat, the State of Baja, the municipality of Mexicali,and the private sector.
As part of the Border 2012 Program, the United States and Mexico signed a binational air monitoring agreement and EPA committed up to $13 million (USD) toward the cleanup of a wastewater treatment plant in Mexicali, Mexico.
On Thursday, June 9, 2005, in Cuidad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico, the Instituto Nacional de Ecologia a division within the Secretaria de Medio Ambiente y Resursos Naturales (SEMARNAT) unveiled the first air emissions inventory for the six northern states of Mexico bordering the United States.
