The Chronicle: 2/15/2002: Michael Beschloss: Celebrity Meets Scholarship
Michael Beschloss is a good-looking man. He has a soft, pleasant voice.
In his research for the book, Beschloss mined all the relevant documentary sources (including some British diplomatic archives that no academic historian had ever used), interviewed every surviving witness of the relationship who was willing to talk, and mastered all of the existing secondary literature.
The book's special virtue is that it documents the extent to which both Kennedy and Khrushchev stumbled to the brink of nuclear war on the basis of misperceptions that each had inadvertently created in the mind of the other, usually in the course of trying to quell domestic constituencies.

The title of the new book from Michael Beschloss is completely accurate, once you understand the meaning of THE CONQUERORS: Roosevelt, Truman and the Destruction of Hitler's Germany, 1941-1945.
Beschloss concentrates not on the destruction of German military might but on the destruction of the idea of Hitler's Germany.
Furthermore, Beschloss provides little or no detail about the crucial issue of how and why the Morgenthau Plan was dropped in favor of the more lenient (and ultimately more successful) Marshall Plan.

RJGPublicthoughts :: William vanden Heuval answers Michael Beschloss -March 2003
In his book, Beschloss denies this, asserting that in spite of a growing body of evidence in the summer and fall of 1942 pointing towards the mass execution of the Jews, FDR chose to hide the extent of what he knew and remain "silent" on the issue in 1942 and 1943.
Beschloss quotes from the December 17, 1942 Allied Declaration on war crimes as evidence to support his argument that FDR preferred not to mention the Jews when speaking of Nazi atrocities, noting only the "mass executions" of "many hundreds of thousands of men, women, and children." But Beschloss is wrong.
