Michael Hartley Freedman (born 21 April 1951 in Los Angeles, California, USA) is a mathematician at Microsoft Research.
Freedman proved the conjecture for n = 4 in 1982 but the original conjecture remains open.
After graduating Freedman was appointed a lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley.

Freedman and Rosenberg were recently in the news for helping Jeffrey Sudikoff and Jospeh Cophen buy the L.A. Kings hockey team, and have acted as advisers or investment bankers for such large companies as hotelier Mirage Resorts Inc., manufacturer Zero Corp. and Malibu Comics Entertainment Inc.
Freedman, a Cornell man and UCLA MBA holder (he played rugby at both schools), has worked for Westside-based The Foothill Group Inc., a publicly held commercial finance and equipment leasing company, from 1978 through 1982.
For the future, Freedman and Rosenberg want to expand their Southland network, and they are planning new services, but which are under wraps right now.

The Jacobers, Freedman said, had two other sons, Michael, 21, a senior at Penn State University, and David, 24, who lives in Washington, D.C. Gregg Weingeroff had a daughter from a previous marriage, Jolie Weingeroff, 21.
Michael Jacober is the captain of the lacrosse team, according to a Penn State website.
