Grade had ambitions to become chairman of the BBC board of governors in 2001, but lost out to Gavyn Davies.
As of 28 November 2006, Grade and the BBC has confirmed that he is to resign from his post with the BBC to replace Sir Peter Burt as Chairman and Charles Allen as Chief Executive of commercial rival ITV, becoming Executive Chairman of ITV plc effective as of early 2007.

Michael wasn't responsible for the downfall of Neighbours, he doesn't write the scripts for the soap or decides what people to have in the show, his job was just to get the programme on at the right time to please the majority of the British Public.
