Michael Harcourt (born 1943) became British Columbia's 30th Premier in 1991, defeating the Rita Johnston-led Social Credit party in a provincial election.
Harcourt's previous political experience included serving as a Vancouver Alderman (1972-1980) and as Mayor of Vancouver (1980-1986).
He was injured in a near fatal fall in November 2002 which resulted in a severe spinal-cord injury.

Michael Franklin Harcourt (born Edmonton January 6, 1943) served as the 30th Premier of the province of British Columbia in Canada from 1991 to 1996, and before that as mayor of BC's major city, Vancouver from 1980 to 1986.
Harcourt served as a Vancouver Alderman from 1973 to 1980, and as Mayor of Vancouver from 1980 to 1986.
Harcourt resigned as premier in February 1996 as the result of "Bingogate", a scandal in which an NDP member, David Stupich, used money raised by a charity bingo to fund the party.

Shortly after completing his first shrievalty Harcourt succeeded to the family estates and was thus well qualified to serve as junior knight of the shire in Edward VI's first Parliament: the current sheriff, Walter Wrottesley, was one of his many kinsmen among the Staffordshire gentry.
Harcourt died on 19 Feb 1566 and was buried at Stanton Harcourt.
