Michael Kelland John Hutchence (January 22, 1960–November 22, 1997) was the lead singer of the Australian rock band, INXS.
The Hutchence family eventually returned to Sydney, and it was there that Hutchence joined Andrew Farriss and Garry Gary Beers in forming a group which would ultimately become INXS.
Hutchence's long-in-the-works solo album, Michael Hutchence, was finally released in 1999, as was his third movie, Limp.

Despite not having finished this album before his death, the arrangements and lyrics were complete and Hutchence had laid down the majority of the vocal tracks.
The only weak tracks on the album are luckily couched in the middle of the disc and, in and of themselves, are not bad tunes, but they seem to go back to familiar territory for Hutchence.
However, Michael Hutchence isn't here to lament poor record sales or the fact that it might be difficult to cull a single off of this album (although my vote is cast for "Possibilities" and "Slide Away" as potential hits).

Michael Hutchence let's the wild thing in him take control of his vocals as he sings about his attempts to join his lover because he can't stand being away any longer-- by the end of the song he echoes "I'm on my way" at least six times.
On the X album the words "Hear that sound" echo into silence, but when we think the song is done the echoing of those words returns stronger than before; however, this effect doesn't happen on Live Baby Live (where the song leads into a rousing performance of "Never Tear Us Apart").

As salacious speculation about the Australian rock icon's unexpected demise recedes into memory, the Hutchence family obviously hope to shift public awareness to Michael Hutchence the self-titled album, completed three years ago with producers Andy Gill and Danny Saber (Gang of Four and Black Grape, respectively) but shelved until February of this year.
That the disc was almost finished by Michael Hutchence's standards before his death makes it a more credible tribute than, say, the baseless demo roundup Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk that commemorated the late Jeff Buckley.
As for the future of INXS, Hutchence says he's fine if the group chooses to carry on with a new singer, providing it's not a Michael Hutchence clone.
