 Unease mounts over anti-terrorism laws - National - theage.com.au
One concern was that laws that were intended to be non-discriminatory might be applied in a discriminatory way — "that the security and police agencies will use their powers against people who are suspect because of their actual or presumed religion or ethnic background, not on the basis of information about behaviour of particular individuals".
Most concern has focused on new laws to place suspects in "preventive detention" for up to 14 days and subject them to control orders for up to 12 months, including house arrest.
While federal Attorney-General Philip Ruddock was required to establish a public review of counter-terrorism laws that have been in place since mid-2002, this was a one-off requirement and the review would disband once it reported some time next year.

As no rational man can deny the absolute necessity of good laws; so it is most fit that such laws should have their due praise and commendations; that the sluggard hereby might be pricked on to virtue, and the diligent might have his deserved reward.
Seeing therefore that these positions or laws, laid down by the father of the honourable Fraternity are worthy of special view, we shall truly according to their nature, and the advantages men may receive from them, Crown them with due commendations, counting them not only worthy of acceptance, but an Encomium.
But laws that are brought in by inferiours, extend only to those that have a particular relation to them; neither are they long lived, nor do they excuse from the laws of superiours, being only obligations which respect time, place, the person and subject.

Dan Heller's Movie Review of "The In-Laws"
Both movies follow essentially the same plot line: the daughter of a conservative and traditional family man from New York is about to marry the son of a CIA agent who happens to be in the midst of cracking a huge international case wide open.
In the case of the doctor, Albert Brooks is perfectly cast as the doctor/father, blundering and fearful exactly as you expect him to be, as he faces everything from near death to being in a hot-tub with a dangerous (and gay) arms dealer.
On the positive side, "The In-Laws" certainly had its share of comedic lines, and I found myself laughing far more often than the movie deserved to be laughed at.
