'''Michael McKean''' (born October 17, 1947) is an American actor, comedian, composer and musician, best known for his portrayal of Leonard Lenny Kosnowski on the sitcom Laverne and Shirley.
McKean directed one episode, and the characters became something of a phenomenon, even releasing an album as Lenny and the Squigtones in 1980, which featured a young Christopher Guest on guitar (credited as Nigel Tufnel, the name Guest would use a few years later as part of the spoof rock band, Spinal Tap).
McKean quickly became a recognisable name in film and television, with appearances in films such as Clue (1985), Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987), Earth Girls Are Easy (1988), the film adaptation of Memoirs of an Invisible Man (1992) and Coneheads (1993).

McKean and Lander wrote themselves into the show as the Lenny and Squiggy characters - Squiggy becomming the German Andrew Squiggman to balance the disproportionally Italian cast - and, like it or not (the producers didn't) the two characters became cult figures and one of the show's main draws.
The three actors - McKean, Christopher Guest and Harry Shearer - behind the band launched a nationwide tour to capitolize on the fame brought by the movie - to entertain themselves, they created the three-piece trio "The Folksman" as an opening act - and were nearly booed offstage at their own shows.
For much of the 1980's, McKean could be found everywhere and everywhere on the dial, from HBO's dramatic serial "Sessions" to the big-screen sequel "Short Circuit 2." He co-wrote the 1989 Kevin Bacon movie "The Big Picture" and essayed a co-starring role in it as well.

In 1975 McKean, Lander and Shearer, were signed to write for the then upcoming ABC sitcom, "Laverne and Shirley" (1976-83).
McKean did better on "This Is Spinal Tap" (1984), an uproariously inventive and on-target "rockumentary" satire of heavy metal music.
McKean had prominent roles in several other features ("D.A.R.Y.L." and "Clue", both 1985), but their poor showing, critically and with the public, subsequently consigned him to supporting roles in "Earth Girls Are Easy" (1989), "Book of Love" (1990), "Coneheads" (1993) and "Airheads" (1994), films which played on his flair for zany farce or rock'n'roll.
