Michael Kitbunchu was born Jan. 25, 1929, in Samphran, in the then Apostolic Vicariate of Bangkok, Thailand.
Chiara Lubich’s first meeting in Thailand was with Cardinal Michael Michai Kitbunchu, the Archbishop of Bangkok who, when informed about the programme of her visit, assured her of the Church’s blessing.

I guess Michael is a sort of anglisization (perhaps not the most apt word) of Michai.
In an interview to Thailand's Catholic media, Cardinal Michael Meechai Kitbunchu said that helping participate in the Catholic history by being among the 115 cardinals who elected Pope Benedict XVI was a personal experience of great value.

The original building was made of wood, was destroyed during the Burmese invasion in 1767 and rebuilt in 1847 by missionaries.
In 2003 Cardinal Michael Michai Kitbunchu decided to restore the church.

Cardinal Michael Michai Kitbunchu of Bangkok said sources in southern Thailand told him that many of the unidentified were from Myanmar, formerly Burma.
Cardinal Kitbunchu said Feb. 8 that the church has reached out to Burmese in the six southern Thai provinces affected by the tsunamis.
He said the church has paid about $25 to Burmese they've identified who either have lost a family member or job because of the tsunami.

Cardinal Michael Michai Kitbunchu of Bangkok made a five million baht (about £60,000) contribution to pay off a debt incurred by the Thai- language "Udomsarn" (Good News) weekly newspaper.
Cardinal Kitbunchu suggested that "Udomsarn" increase circulation to 10,000 copies from the current 7,800.
