Robert Michael Nesmith, born December 30, 1942 in Houston, Texas, is an American musician, songwriter, actor, producer, novelist, businessman and philanthropist.
Nesmith's "Mary, Mary" was recorded by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, while "Different Drum" was recorded by Linda Ronstadt and the Stone Poneys.
Nesmith spent a decade as a board of trustees member and nominating member of the American Film Institute and is currently President and chairman of the board of trustees of the Gihon Foundation.

Robert Michael Nesmith was born December 30, 1942 in Houston, Texas.
Michael Nesmith reunited with The Monkees once again in 1996 to celebrate their 30 year anniversary.The group released a new album JUSTUS, that featured songs that were all written and played by The Monkees.
Michael Nesmith has written his first novel The Long Sandy Hair Of Neftoon Zamora, which was released by St Martins Press in December of 1998.

Nesmith was in Los Angeles by the mid-'60s, and formed the folk-rock duo Mike and John with John London.
Nesmith's first act independent of the Monkees was the formation of the First National Band, with old friend John London on bass, John Ware on drums, and one of country music's best steel guitarists, Red Rhodes.
Nesmith's 1973 album Pretty Much Your Standard Stash was his last for RCA Victor, as he formed the music/communications label Pacific Arts in 1974.

By agreement among PBS, major producers and Nesmith, the details of their settlement were ordered sealed for confidentiality by Magistrate Judge Brian Q. Robbins, who presided over the trial and post-trial motions.
Henry Gradstein, lead attorney for Nesmith, contended in a brief that the company's video rights were worth enough for it to have paid off its overdue debts to the producers.
PBS was asking the judge to: grant a new trial as to liability and/or damages, or a partial new trial; rule in its favor as a matter of law; or strike the jury's award of general and specific compensatory damages and punitive damages, or for a reduction of damages on Nesmith's counterclaims.

Nesmith is famously the Monkee who objected the most to the role the band was forced into by the nameless, faceless executives of either television or the music biz.
Videos of the band interacting with Johnny Cash and Frank Zappa as well as projects such as the Monkees bizarre psychedelic movie Head, wherein the band plays one scene as flakes of dandruffs in someones head, also serve to show the promise the group truly had that for the most part, remained unseized.
