Corboz uses a chamber-sized ensemble, but whatever gains this might have carried with it in clarity of line are totally undone by the engineering: the recording sounds as though it was made in an airplane hangar that just happened to be available.
Corboz observes such big retards at the ends of sections that it is difficult to get a grasp of the continuity of the whole.
Corboz also commits the rather astonishing boner of assigning the continuo in the brighter numbers to a closely miked harpsichord, rather than the imore appropriate porta- tive organ.

Mass in B minor BWV 232 - conducted by Michel Corboz
Both his B Minor recordings use modern instruments, and yet in a sense his performances are informed by historical practices (small forces, controlled use of vibrato, use of mezza di voce, rather brisk tempos,...).
The Corboz rendition of the BWV 232 is a late Nineties recording and I cannot tell if it's on period-instruments or not.
The original Corboz recording from the early '70s is a favorite.
