Michel was born in Peribonka, Quebec on April 21, 1960 and was the fifth of eight brothers.
Following the 1978-79 season, Michel was drafted by the Quebec Nordiques in the first round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft and embarked upon a fifteen year NHL career.
Michel is currently employed by the Colorado Avalanche as their Director of Player Personnel and in that role he was a part of the 1995-96 Stanley Cup Champions.

The town is prime hockey country, and the birthplace on April 21, 1960 of Michel Goulet, the outstanding NHL left winger.
Michel spent two seasons as a member of the Remparts, and during that second season in 1977-78, he accumulated 77 goals and 78 assists for 135 points and drew the attention of the hockey world.
Michel Goulet was the first round selection of the Quebec Nordiques in 1979.

Goulet and Bertrand had originally worked it into his Birmingham contract that if the Birmingham franchise folded and wasn't part of any merger with the NHL, Goulet's contract would be offered to Quebec before any other NHL team.
Goulet, who had a base salary of roughly $250,000, was demanding a minimum of $400,000.
Differences were finally resolved, when Goulet accepted a one-year deal equal to what he would have made and a guarantee of a big raise for 1986-87.
