  Salon | "Romy and Michele"
Starring Mira Sorvino ("Mighty Aphrodite") and Lisa Kudrow ("Friends"), "Romy and Michele" is not so much a fable as a white flag for the slacker generation as it hits the big 10-year mark since high school graduation.
Michele spent high school in a body brace for scoliosis, while Romy battled her image as the fat girl (even though the Romy we see in flashback is plump only by Hollywood's anorexic standards).
Think of it as a sincere plea to take the Romy and Micheles of the world as successful on their own terms, embracing, as much as humanly possible, their penchant for polyester and vinyl.

Guardian Unlimited | Obituaries | Ralph Rumney
There is a set of photographs from the first meeting of the Situationist International, in the Italian village of Cosio d'Arroscia in July 1957.
All the founding members are there: Walter Olmo, Michèle Bernstein, Asger Jorn and, of course, Guy Debord, smiling at the camera.
To Ralph, she was "the most situationist" of them all, the one who fought to stop the group turning into an an ideology or a sect.

Movie Review - Dick - Hollywood Bitchslap   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The best-known account of the bugging, taping, obstruction of justice and cover-up saga is the 1974 book, All the President’s Men, written by Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward, and filmed in 1976 with Dustin Hoffman as Bernstein and Robert Redford as Woodward.
In this movie, Bernstein and Woodward are played like Agarn and O’Rourke in the F Troop re-runs watched by Teri Garr as the mother of Arlene Lorenzo (Michele Williams), one of the film’s two 15-year-old heroines.
Arlene, who lives in the Watergate building, and her giggly friend Betsy (Kirsten Dunst) meet an odd stranger on the night of the Democratic HQ break-in, when they sneak out of the building to post an entry to a Bobby Sherman competition.

 Review 0154
eremy Bernstein, a professor of physics and the writer of numerous books and scientific articles, has undertaken an unusual adventure in this volume: to transmit his concern about the little knowledge that the general audience has about certain areas in physics through several conversations with renowned scientists in these areas.
Thus, Bernstein, concerned as he was about the scarce popular interest in quantum physics, chose to have long dialogues with three of the most important personalities in our days whose work is completely involved with this science, and later transmit the result in book format.
Certainly, the book will surely attract the admirers of these scientists being interviewed here, as well as the students of Physics who want to find something more than mere mathematics in that which they are learning.

 Guy Debord
Michèle Bernstein, Debord's first wife (she later married Ralph) also believed this to be true.
When my shopwindow was greeted with its first Molotov cocktail, it was again with Debord and Michele Bernstein that we defined the attitude to assume, far from democratic snivelling and by a maximum advertising books that upset Stalinists, the probable aggressors.
Michele Bernstein, for example, was indeed charming, subtle, and far better-read than I was, but she didn't seem to be a "revolutionary" as I conceived it.

 News
To Bernstein, Guster's impromptu comments skewering Oldsmobile from the stage were nothing short of a self-serving betrayal.
Even Miller acknowledges that Bernstein fought to get the band on the Rockfest bill and then wouldn't budge when music executives tried to force Guster to play earlier in the day to a smaller crowd to accommodate a hotter, up-and-coming band, Nine Days.
Bernstein said she would have tried to work something out if the band had come to her before taking the stage.

The Situationist International Text Library/The Realization and Supression of Situationism
Best known today for its ultra-left politics, the SI was founded by artists who merged two tiny organizations, the Lettrist International (starring filmmaker Guy Debord and his wife Michele Bernstein, a collage artist) and the International Movement for an Imaginist Bauhaus (including painters Asger Jorn and Giuseppe Pinot-Gallizio).
Situationist art - collages, cartoons and altered originals - became pure propaganda.
Bernstein produced a series of collages - among them "Victory of the Paris Commune" and "Victory of the Workers' Councils of Budapest" - which were unfortunately destroyed when the Situationist headquarters in Denmark was torched in 1965.

 Bernstein, J.: Quantum Profiles.
For the prominent science writer Jeremy Bernstein, the profile is the most congenial way of communicating science.
Here, in what he labels a "series of conversations carried on in the reader's behalf and my own," he evokes the tremendous intellectual excitement of the world of modern physics, especially the quantum revolution.
Drawing on his well-known talent for explaining the most complex scientific ideas for the layperson, Bernstein gives us a lively sense of what the issues of quantum mechanics are and of various ways in which individual physicists approached them.

Some describe him as having provided the theoretical clarity within the group; others say that he exercised dictatorial control over its development and membership.
Other members included the Scottish writer Alexander Trocchi, the English artist Ralph Rumney (sole member of the London psycho-geographical society, Rumney suffered expulsion relatively soon after the formation of the Situationist International), the Scandinavian vandal-cum-artist Asger Jorn, the veteran of the Hungarian Uprising Attila Kotanyi, the French writer Michele Bernstein, and Raoul Vaneigem.
One way or another, the currents which the SI took as predecessors saw their purpose as involving a radical redefinition of the role of art in the twentieth century.

Response to a Questionnaire on Art and Society (Situationist International)
The enclosed work obviously cannot represent a “situationist art.” Under the present distinctly antisituationist cultural conditions we have to resort to “communication containing its own critique,” which we have experimented with in every accessible medium, from film to writing, and which we have theorized under the name of détournement.
Since the Center for Socio-Experimental Art has limited its survey to the plastic arts, we have selected, from among the numerous possibilities of détournement as a means of agitation, Michèle Bernstein’s antipainting Victory of the Bonnot Gang.
It forms part of a series including Victory of the Paris Commune, Victory of the Great Jacquerie of 1358, Victory of the Spanish Republicans, Victory of the Workers Councils of Budapest and several other victories.
