Michele Novaro (October 23, 1818 - October 21, 1885) was an Italian songwriter.
He composed the Italian national anthem popularly known as Inno di Mameli - which was unofficially adopted in 1946 and confirmed in 2005.

In 1847 Mameli joined the Società Entelema, a cultural movement that soon would have turned to a political movement, and here he started approaching to the theories of Giuseppe Mazzini.
Mameli is mostly known as the author of the lyrics of the Italian national anthem, Fratelli d'Italia (music was by Michele Novaro).
These lyrics were used for the first time in November 1847 celebrating the king Charles Albert, in visit to Genoa after his first reformations.

The words were written in the autumn of 1847 in Genoa, by the then 20-year-old student and patriot Goffredo Mameli (two years before his death), in a climate of popular struggle for unification and independence of Italy which foreshadowed the war against Austria.
Two months later, they were set to music in Turin by another Genoese, Michele Novaro.
The second manuscript is the copy that Mameli sent to Novaro for setting it to music.

In 1848, he served as a volunteer under Garibaldi in Lombardy and in 1849 became Chief of Staff of the Roman Republic.
The 'Fratelli d'Italia' was set to music almost immediately by MICHELE NOVARO (1822-1885), and throughout Italy it helped awaken interest in the growing revolutionary movement.
The march has a forceful introduction, marked andant maestoso, in triplet rhythms which are carried throughout the entire first section in the accompaniment.
