	Leipzig Trade Fair - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		In 1190 Otto the Rich, margrave of Saxony instigated two trade fairs in Leipzig, at Easter (Jubilate) and Michelmas.
		No other fair was to be held up to a mile away (Marktbann), and the bridges and streets were freed from toll.
		The Michelmas fair was held at the church of St. Nikolai, built in 1176.

		Of course, your time wouldn't be complete without a reef-trip and the best one for birders is the MV Seastar II, which offers a boat-trip around the seabird rookery on Michelmas Cay, aswell as snorkelling and scuba-diving.
		Michelmas Cay is packed with Sooty Terns, Common Noddies and Brown Boobies; Frigatebirds sometimes wheel menacingly overhead and a passing Humpback Whale will often complete an idyllic scene.
		Cruising up the coast, Beach Thick-knees drop in to bathe at the mouth of Hartley's Creek, Mangrove Robins can be 'pished' out at Cooya Beach and Wandering Tattlers sometimes frequent the jetty at Rocky Point.

		Being within touching distance of the corals and multi-coloured fish is something not to be missed (fish spotting seems like a good pastime).
		The trip also included a half-an-hour visit to Michelmas Cay, which holds thousands of breeding Sooty Terns and Brown Noddies.

	Oxford University Speculative Fiction Group
		That basically requires the shortlist to be published at the start of the christmas term, to allow sufficient reading time, and it removes the longlist stage almost entirely, which is a shame.
		An alternative that just occurred to me might be to run the award from July to July; people could then read longlisted titles over the summer, vote for the shortlist at the start of Michelmas, and vote for the winner in the runup to Picocon.
		End of Michelmas 2004: Having had a chance to do a bit of reading, members are allowed to nominate any titles they feel are worthy of the OUSFG award.

		The annual Goose Fair in Tavistock dates back to the early 12th century, when a Michelmas Fair held every September 29th provided the opportunity for business and animal trading, and was a social event for wives and daughters.
		The name Goose Fair probably came about as farmers brought their geese to market ready for fattening for Christmas, and the only other Goose Fair (in Nottingham) has a similar connection.
		When the new calendar was introduced in 1752 the ‘loss’ of 11 days changed the date of the Michelmas Fair to October 10th, and now the Fair is held on the second Wednesday in October each year.
