Michigan State Highway 43, or M-43, is a highway in southwestern and central Michigan from South Haven, junction Interstate 196 to Webberville, junctions Interstate 96 and Michigan State HIghway 52.
Between Kalamazoo and Hastings, a route that angles slightly north of east toward Richland, Michigan, meets Michigan State Highway 89, and turns sharply northward toward Hastings, where it meets Michigan State Highway 37.
Between Hastings and downtown Lansing, a largely east-west route through Woodbury (junctions with Michigan State Highway 50 and Michigan State Highway 66) and Grand Ledge, where it meets Michigan State Highway 100.

 Michigan Highways: Introduction
According to MDOT, Michigan ranks 48th in the U.S. in percentage of roads under the jurisdiction of the state as compared to all roads system in the state (7.9%).
The Michigan Department of Transportation does correctly note that "the density of development varies considerably throughout Michigan, with the heaviest concentration existing in the southeast portion of the lower peninsula." Even with this obvious disparity in settlement density, there has always been a level of "geographic equity" in the organization of the state highway system.
MDOT notes their aim has been to "provide everyone with reasonable access to a state highway, regardless of where they live." Over the more than 85 year history of the signed state highway system, MDOT and its predecessors have done a excellent job of adhearhing to their goal.

The western terminus is the intersection with Interstate 196/U.S. Highway 31 exit 34 in Ganges Township.

Establishment of speed zones on Michigan state highways is primarily based on the 85th percentile speed obtained by measuring a sample of free-flow vehicle speeds traveling under favorable traffic and roadway conditions.
To assess the safety impact of the current Michigan speed zoning method, a before and after design with a comparison group and a check for comparability was employed on speed zones established on state highways during the period 1982 through 1986.
Based on the assessment, the current Michigan procedure of posting limits within 5 mi/h of the 85th percentile speed was found to be superior to the other speed zoning methods examined.

The state route marker has always been a diamond and has always contained the familiar "M." In the early years, the diamond was taller than wide, had the words "STATE TRUNKLINE" across the widest part of the diamond, and the "M" and highway number were of the same size.
The state highway system is undergoing some change at present, though, with the potential addition of hundreds (maybe thousands!) of miles of locally maintained roads to the system.

The legislature passed a bill to make St. Peter the state capital, but since the bill was stolen before it was filed with the territorial secretary of state, the move was never made.

 Wisconsin Highways: STH-32 Red Arrow Highway
STH-32 throughout Wisconsin is also designated the "32nd Division Memorial Highway," commemorating the 32nd Division for obvious 'numerical' reasons.
In order to honor those men who fought as a part of the 32nd Division, thousands of whom never returned to Wisconsin, STH-32 was designated in honor of them, and the division's logo, the 'red arrow,' is placed on each and every STH-32 sign in the state, from Illinois to Michigan.
The department is further directed that in addition to the numeral 32, the highway markers on this highway carry a red arrow, and that historical markers be erected and maintained along the highway in honor of the 32nd Division and its members.

This highway is one of the few which has existed along its present routing without major change or rerouting over the course of its history.
An article from the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel states the Ozaukee Co portion of the former SR-143 was transferred from state to local control in 1992.
On the Washington Co side, the highway seemingly held on until 1997, ending at the county line for a couple years until it was finally transferred to local control.

Overall it's a real nice place, but as mentioned the water can be a little nasty for swimming, we stopped by in the summer and the beach was a long walk from the campground and didn't appear to be used due to muck in the water.
Also, on one side of the campground is a busy highway, and on the other side is a train track, literally on the edge of the property, there is a train track, where a train comes by almost every night, very early, and very slow in the morning like 3-5am.
It is within 2 miles of Lake Michigan and within walking distance of the Platte River (great for family canoeing).
