The Michigan gubernatorial election of 2006 is one of the 36 U.S. gubernatorial elections scheduled for November 7, 2006.
DeVos complained, on March 9, 2006, that a public service announcement telling residents who to contact if they cannot afford to pay their heating costs during Michigan's freezing winter, produced by DTE Energy Co. and given by Granholm is in his opinion a Granholm campaign commercial in disguise.
The Michigan Democratic Party held their state convention in city of Detroit at Cobo Hall while the Michigan Republican Party held their convention in the City of Novi in Oakland County at the new Rock Financial Showplace.

On August 9, the Michigan legislature approved a “voters’ initiative” to repeal the Michigan SBT as of January 1, 2008.
The voters’ initiative is a provision authorized under the Michigan Constitution which enables a bill to become law with only legislative approval if petitions signed by 8 percent of the state’s voters in the previous gubernatorial election support the measure.
Michigan is now 50th among the states in unemployment, 49th in the index of economic momentum, 49th in personal income growth.

After four months of statewide advertising from Republican gubernatorial candidate Dick DeVos went unchallenged, the Democrats are fighting back.
The ad is a drop in the bucket compared with the millions spent by DeVos, the former president of Amway and its parent company Alticor.

In 2002, the first gubernatorial television ads ran in June and were related to the Democratic primary.
