leedsfans.org.uk: Leeds United Player Profile: Mick Jones
As a youngster, Mick Jones was an enthusiastic and regular visitor to both Hillsborough and Bramall Lane, watching whichever of the two Sheffield sides happened to be playing at home that week.
Mick Jones became the first 6-figure player signed by Leeds, costing £100,000 in summer 1967 - but with his goalscoring record for Sheffield United to back it up, the board agreed to part with what was then a huge amount of money.
Tex says: MICK JONES was integral to the SNIFFER legend, without Mick the Sniffer would not have scored anywhere near the amount of goals he did, even if he was one of the best strikers of all time.

Jack Charlton:   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-08)
Despite being born into a footballing family (his uncle was Jackie Milburn), Charlton didn't seem to be cut out to be a footballer in his younger days, overshadowed completely by the skill of his younger brother Bobby, who was taken on by [[Manchester United F.C. while Jack was doing his National Service.
Mick Jones struck what seemed a certain winner for Leeds with six minutes left, only for Charlton to be caught out of position by a quickly-taken free kick shortly afterwards, with Ian Hutchinson heading the equaliser.
Jones scored to put Leeds ahead again, but Osgood equalised for Chelsea late in the second half and in extra time, after a pressured Charlton had unwittingly back-headed a Hutchinson long throw across his own area, David Webb scored Chelsea's winner.

Leeds were not really equipped to handle the level of football at that stage of their development, and the change to the offside law in 1925-26 didn't help matters.

The Football Association's disciplinary panel were busy in early October 1967, first taking the unprecedented action to ban Chelsea manager, Tommy Docherty, for 28 days and then dishing out a similar punishment to Leeds United skipper, Billy Bremner.
Also getting in on the act were the Football League disciplinary boys, who took United to task for wearing the same coloured socks as Everton in a game at Goodison Park - and fined the Elland Road club the princely sum of ten guineas (£10.50p)!
Watched by a crowd of 40,460 - beating the previous biggest of the season of 37,084 a fortnight earlier when Mick Jones made his debut for United after signing from Sheffield United - the dynamic little midfield man, with his back to goal, launched himself and scored with a great overhead kick.
