Casing Out MicroATX | Tom's Hardware   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
MicroATX (center) is nearly 50% smaller than a midi tower (right) with almost twice the space of a small form-factor PC (SFF-PC, on the left).
Opting to start out with a MicroATX case represents an alternative solution, although you will still have to tinker around with the system by installing the motherboard, CPU and memory yourself.
The MicroATX form factor is not much larger than a small form-factor PC system, although it can accommodate many more components inside.

Review: AOpen MT 85 microATX case
Intel's microATX standard for cases, motherboards and computers built with them was finalised in 1997, and computers using it started to arrive in the second half of 1998.
MicroATX is meant to offer a "Basic PC" at a reduced price, by cutting out things that aren't needed in many machines - extra expansion slots, hefty power supplies and room for lots of drives, for instance.
If you're after a microATX case, you don't have nearly as many choices open to you as there are in the plain ATX market.

Tam bir MicroATX bilgisayara ödemeyi düşündüğünüz bedeli göz önünde bulundurarak, küçük biçim bileşenli bilgisayarda hazır gelen donanımı edinmek için parçaları tek tek seçip satın almanız gerekiyor.

2003 Winter Case Review Part 1: MicroATX Case Madness | Tom's Hardware
THG users continue to seek the flexibility that is offered by these "cube type" based systems, while at the same time users want the flexibility to select their own parts to make up the system that they are building.
While the MicroATX and FlexATX form factors have been available to motherboard vendors for some time, it is only in the last year or so that these form factors have gained significant momentum in the marketplace.
While it is possible to find a MicroATX motherboard that will fit your application and the level of performance that you desire, be prepared to do a significant amount of research and shopping around to find exactly what you are seeking in a high performance MicroATX motherboard.

FAQs On MicroATX   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-13)
A microATX design enables the same high integration of an ATX motherboard but with a smaller footprint.
The layout of the microATX form factor is very similar to ATX, but it is considerably smaller, which results in the following advantages: modern form factor (as compared to another small-size, but old, form factor - Baby AT), lower cost of manufacturing, lower cost of the chassis, space saving design, and so forth.
No, microATX will be the preferred very low cost form factor while ATX will continue to exist as a solution for designs needing more I/O slots, peripheral bays, and onboard components.

Rackmount Chassis, Power Supply and Industrial Computer Solutions
The microATX specification was released in January 1998 and is a derivative of the ATX2.01 specification.
The microATX motherboard may be integrated into either a full size ATX or a microATX chassis that meets the ATX2.01 or later specification.
MicroATX chassis differ from most ATX chassis in that the power supply locations vary and they may use SFX or ATX power supplies.

 microATX and FlexATX Form Factor
microATX is intended for the medium to low-end market that Intel has decided to target with force.
FlexATX motherboards use the same mounting holes as microATX ones, so they can in theory be mounted into microATX cases; the point of FlexATX however is to further reduce physical case size for the most inexpensive of PC systems.
microATX and FlexATX are of little interest to most serious PC enthusiasts or homebuilders, due to their very limited capacity and expandability.

The microATX form factor was developed as a natural evolution of the ATX form factor to address new market trends and PC technologies.
While offering the same benefits of the ATX form factor specification, the microATX form factor improves upon the previous specification in several key areas.
The expected effect of these reductions is to lower the total system cost to the end user.

The Aspire was flawed because it used a proprietary power supply, and that supply is a pre-ATX 2.1 unit that won't play well with current generation motherboards.
Today, though, we take a close look at a modern microATX case that's designed to work with standard power supplies, the SilverStone SG01B.
In fact, this case may be somewhat familiar to ExtremeTech readers.
