Microangiopathy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Microangiopathy is a disease process affecting small blood vessels.
In diabetic nephropathy, glycosylated protein deposits appear diffusely on the basement membranes of capillary loops of the glomeruli, causing microangiopathy of tubules and arterioles.
Massive microangiopathy may cause the picture of microangiopathic hemolytic anemia (MAHA).

This condition is correlated to incidences of microangiopathy, whereby the basement membrane in capillaries thickens.
Microangiopathy occurs in the cochlear vessels of the ear.
Microangiopathy may not in fact directly affect the cochlear mechanism and thus not be the correct explanation for diabetic hearing loss.

 Microangiopathy in Type 1 ....
The aim of the study was to identify factors associated with early onset of and late protection from microangiopathy in Type 1 diabetes using the cross-sectional data of the EURODIAB IDDM project.
That one out of four patients with Type 1 diabetes shows some degree of microangiopathy during the first 5 years of disease, is by itself of great clinical importance.
The fact that those who did not have microangiopathy after at least 14 years of disease had a greater frequency of severe episodes of hypoglycemia in the preceding year, illustrates the current dilemma of intensive insulin treatment schemes.

The long-term consequences of thrombotic microangiopathy (thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura and hemolytic uremic syndrome) in pregnancy.
This study characterized perinatal outcomes and long-term maternal complications from thrombotic microangiopathy manifested during pregnancy, and reviewed the clinical course and long-term follow-up of pregnant women with this condition at an obstetric service at a major Dallas, Texas institution over the past 25 years.
Thrombotic microangiopathy complicating pregnancy is rare, and with careful evaluation, it should not be confused with atypical preeclampsia.

Diabetic microangiopathy is responsible for major diabetic health complications, such as leg ulcers, kidney failure and retinopathy.
The study sampled 60 diabetic patients suffering from diabetic microangiopathy being treated with insulin for at least three years at the Chieti-Pescara University in Italy.
The capillary adaptation to increased pressure from lying down to standing is generally impaired, due to vessel failure and increase of pressure in capillaries for individuals who suffer from diabetic microangiopathy.

Microangiopathy definition - Medical Dictionary definitions of popular medical terms
Microangiopathy: Angiopathy means disease of the blood vessels (arteries, veins, and capillaries).
With microangiopathy, the walls of very small blood vessels (capillaries) become so thick and weak that they bleed, leak protein, and slow the flow of blood.
For example, diabetics may develop microangiopathy with thickening of capillaries in many areas including the eye.

After 4 weeks, microcirculatory and clinical evaluations showed a progressive decrease in skin flux at rest in the foot (indicating an improvement in the level of microangiopathy), a significant decrease in capillary filtration, and a significant improvement in the venoarteriolar response in all treated subjects.
The retinal microangiopathy is characterised by vascular lesions with exudate deposits and haemorrhages causing vision loss.

Health News - Pine Bark Extract Speeds Up Diabetic Ulcer Healing
A study published in the September edition of Angiology shows that supplementing with Pycnogenol, an antioxidant plant extract from the bark of the French Maritime pine tree, significantly reduced diabetic microangiopathy (DM) in patients.
The study sampled 60 diabetic patients suffering from diabetic microangiopathy being treated with insulin for at least three years at the Chieti-Pescara University in Italy.
Results showed that when patients were lying down, pine tree bark treatment improved capillary blood flow by 34 percent, compared to 4.7 percent in the placebo group.

Treatment of 30 diabetic microangiopathy patients with (60mg twice daily) total triterpenic fraction of Centella asiatica was found to be useful by improving microcirculation and decreasing capillary permeability.
A single-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study performed on the effects of different doses of the total triterpenic fraction of Centella asiatica in patients with venous hypertensive microangiopathy revealed that it has venoactive effect and it was safe at doses as high as 120 mg daily.
Treatment of diabetic microangiopathy (defined by laser Doppler) and edema patients with total triterpenic fraction of Centella asiatica (tablets, 60 mg twice daily for 1 year) revealed that the decrease in capillary filtration and edema is associated with symptomatic improvement.
