| | National Animal Identification Program (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20) |
 | | Current status - A variety of identification methods and devices is used to identify camelids including ear notches, ear tags (metal or plastic clips, bangle tags) ear or lip tattoos, neck tags or collars, implanted transponders (hereafter referred to as microchips), DNA or blood typing, photos and owner recognition. |
 | | Both the ILR and ARI currently will record identification information for microchips, tattoos and ear tags in their databases and on the registration certificates of individual animals, but their records rely on information provided to them by owners. |
 | | Their records do not currently include animals that attend an event but are not entered in the show and, presently, these records are unlikely to be available in a manner that would routinely allow 48-hour tracing. |
