Topic: Micrococci

 [No title]
Micrococci in fresh blood smears were still present (25-30%) and a blood culture proved positive for Staphilococcus sp.
The hallmark of this group was the notable presence of micrococci in the blood, in association with pain/fatigue symptoms, high CK acitivity and, in 9/16 cases, low serum magnesium.
Micrococci were present in the blood and blood-culture proved positive for Staphilococcus spp.

Although serologic tests for CFS do not exist, it seems worthy to suggest that the presence of micrococci in the blood could be used as a diagnostic for this syndrome, because they apparently are the main hematological difference observed between healthy and chronically fatigued animals.

Emerging Infectious Diseases: Prosthetic valve endocarditis due to Kytococcus schroeteri - Letters - Letter to the ...
To the Editor: Bacteria belonging to the former genus Micrococcus, the so-called micrococci, are usually regarded as contaminants from skin and mucous membranes.
The traditional identification of the micrococci is based on their susceptibility to lysozyme and bacitracin and their resistance to lysostaphin and nitrofurantoin, in contrast to staphylococci, which display the opposite pat tern.
Since early reports of endocarditis caused by gram-positive cocci that appear in tetrads and packets often did not reliably differentiate between micrococci and phenotypically similar microorganisms, such as coagulase-negative staphylococci, the frequency of micrococcal endocarditis is difficult to ascertain and might be underestimated.

Staphylococci are currently included together with micrococci and planococci in the family Micrococcaceae as a matter of convenience, since these genera are not closely related phylogenetically and should not be combined in one family.
Among others, staphylococci and micrococci may be differentiated on the basis of anaerobic acid production from glucose, which is positive for most Staphylococcus species and negative for most Micrococcus species.

Micrococci and species of Flavobacterium were the most resistant, micrococci in particular comprising a much greater proportion of the organisms in the frozen product as compared with the freshly packed material (79).
In a special study of the micrococci to note the presence of food-poisoning (enterotoxin-producing) forms, of 50 strains of staphylococci isolated from frozen vegetables, 12 were found capable of elaborating enterotoxic substances in appropriate media and four in elaborating them in frozen-pack corn held at room temperature (35).
The whole series of studies showed that frozen vegetables and fruits may be kept safely with reasonable care in handling to prevent development of spoilage organisms.

BACTERIOLOGY - Online Information article about BACTERIOLOGY
" microbes." " micro-organisms," " microphytes," " bacilli," " micrococci." All these terms, including the usual one of bacteria, are unsatisfactory; for " bacterium," " bacillus " and " micrococcus " have narrow technical meanings, and the other terms are too vague to be scientific.
They were then known under the name of " animalculae," and were confounded with all kinds of other small organisms.
Resemblances also exist between the endospores and the spore-formations in the Saccharomycetes, and if Bacillus inflatus, B. ventriculus, &c., really form more than one spore in the cell, these analogies are strengthened.

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) in 15 dogs and cats with specific biochemical and microbiological anomalies
A disease in dogs and cats characterized by clinically evaluated chronic fatigue, constant presence of micrococci in the blood and 60% Staph-positive blood cultures, found complete remission after intravenous treatment with low dosage sodium thiacetarsamide (Caparsolate, 0.1 ml/Kg/day for 2 days), a trivalent organic arsenical, used as single drug.
Taken togheter, these results apparently exclude a risk of contamination of the Columbia’s plates during procedure and seems to confirm the bacterial nature of the micrococci-like organisms observed in the blood of the reported cases (Fig 1, 3).
In comparison with ‘healthy’ and ‘sick with other illness’ control groups the CFS-affected animals showed a significant prevalence (60%) of Staph-positive blood cultures and presence of micrococci in the blood before therapy, with constant and stable disappearance after treatment and clinical recovery.

The condition was more serious in horse #1, that also had pyoderma and generalized acne, spreading from the knees to the distal end of the legs, and a unilateral chronic kerato-conjunctivitis.
Recent research [35] seems to confirm such ‘obsolete’ indications, since myopathy with atrophy of both types of muscular fibers and mitochondrial abnormalities have been observed in goats artificially raised in conditions of dietetic arsenic deficiency.
A working hypothesis for research is that a similar mechanism of action could be involved even in the therapeutic results apparently obtainable in CFS-like illnesses of animals associated with the presence of micrococci in the blood.

 Foot Odor
Foot odor occurs when various bacteria, primarily corynebacteria and micrococci, break down organic substances found on the skin and clothing, resulting in undesired smells from the feet.
The feet and arm pits are the places where odors most commonly occur because they provide warm, moist breeding grounds for odor-causing bacteria.
Excessive odor occurs when “bad” bacteria, such as corynebacteria and micrococci, are present in a higher concentration than normal.

To "cure" odour, is necessary to understand where these odours come from and then eliminate the SOURCE of the odours.

Both of these bacteria are present on the surfaces of everyone's body at all times.
