Microgame - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A microgame is a small board game, wargame or role-playing game packaged in a small set.
The term generally refers to board wargames or role playing games which were packaged and sold with instructions and maps or playing surfaces either printed in a booklet format or as one large sheet folded until it became "pocket sized" (approximately 4"x7").
Game pieces (also known as chits or counters) were printed on one or more sheets of thick paper which the player had to cut for themselves rather than the die cut cardboard sheets included with most board wargames.

"The Next Level" GBA Game Review - Wario Ware, Inc.: Mega Microgame$
Apparently, Wario hasn't played a game since before he began starring in them, as all of his microgames (think mini games, but more mini) require only the D-pad and the A button, and quite frequently, only one of the two.
The level tracks that play between games add a lot to the flow and intensity of a particular set, and while the simple beats that play during games aren't offensive, you'll be too busy concentrating to remember many of them.
The unlockable full games are worth the $30 price of admission alone, and when your batteries run out, even the manual is packed with stickers and brain teasers.

You may know that it is rare that a game is published in exactly the form (rules mechanics, wording, board) in which it was submitted.
As I worked closely with the owners of Games Workshop, who published the game, and as I designed the game to reflect a short story they had written, and as they helped playtest it, there was no separate developer, and no problems at all, from my point of view.
The game is regarded as a classic, and I hope someday to have it reprinted, though the situation (a game based on a short story that was written to publicize a line of miniature figures!) is pretty unusual.

The premise of the game is basically similar to that of the movie ALIENS, with a healthy dose of AWFUL GREEN THINGS FROM OUTER SPACE: a small team of heavily armed space marines creep about a starship in a decaying orbit and get butchered by nasty buglike alien creatures.
Since the game needs only to model the behavior of bloodthirsty aliens in a confined area and not Wehrmacht soldiers in the field, a very simple ambush or discovery die roll governs enemy activation.

Previously it was known that the game would be a collection of mini-games, but we didn't know what they would involve or what kind of structure tied them all together.
(The term "Microgame" in the American title is probably referring to the same thing.) For instance, one takes place during the final battle of Metroid, and you try to defeat Mother Brain by pressing the buttons rapidly.
We're still not sure what, if anything, ties all these activities together (such as the board game in Mario Party), but it seems that each mini-game has a bomb in the bottom-left corner of the screen, and you have to complete the challenge before that bomb goes off.
