FIBRO Pocket Goniometer measures dynamic Contact Angle   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
With this approach it is important to avoid an impact which would cause the droplet to splash as this would result in too low a contact angle reading as the droplet recedes on the surface.
Empirically we have found that a water droplet of 2-4 microlitre can be applied from a distance of two millimeters without any negative impact.
The reason for this is of course the small mass in combination with the high surface tension of water holding the droplet together.

As a result of a study recently completed by PTB a simple method to determine the density of human serum is now available.
In order to limit the total amount of a patient's blood to be collected for this purpose, it is becoming increasingly important to analyse liquid volumes of only a few microlitres.
Such small liquid volumes are dispensed with manually controlled piston-operated pipettes and microlitre syringes and with similar automated systems.

Convert microlitre to millilitre - conversion of measurement units
1 cubic meter is equal to 1000000000 microlitre, or 1000000 millilitre.
The microlitre is a minute liquid volume that is part of the metric system of measures and which has been accepted into the International System of Units.
The millilitre (ml or mL, also spelt milliliter) is a metric unit of volume that is equal to one thousandth of a litre.

Forensic clock calls time on crime
They discovered that messenger RNA breaks down faster than ribosomal, or rRNA, so it is possible to work out when a sample was deposited by measuring how much of each type is present (Forensic Science International, DOI: 10.1016/j.forsciint.2004.04.071).
The test works with just one microlitre of blood and might even be sensitive enough to tell investigators when a fingerprint was left, though the team have not yet tried this.
Bishop is not sure why rRNA breaks down more slowly, but he believes it may be because rRNA is protected by proteins that bind it into ribosomes- part of the cell's machinery for producing proteins.

Interrupting HIV treatment may have its benefits - sex - 04 August 2006 - New Scientist
The remaining 284 patients received these drugs only when the level of their CD4 immune cells fell below 350 cells per microlitre of blood — HIV attacks and destroys the CD4 immune cells, so they are measured as a marker of disease progression.
Hirschel explains that a healthy person typically has a CD4 cell count above 500 cells per microlitre of blood and that HIV patients are said to have developed AIDS when their CD4 counts drop below 200 cells per microlitre.
However, while participants on interrupted treatment had a higher risk of low CD4 counts, they did not have a greater risk of serious infection than their counterparts in the study.
