Microsoft Space Simulator - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
It is one of the first general-purpose space flight simulators (and arguably the best until the arrival of Orbiter) and caters to armchair astronauts, space flight enthusiasts and sci-fi fans alike.
Although as a space flight simulator it requires from their users knowledge of some hard-to-grasp concepts of astrodynamics and celestial mechanics Space Simulator proved to be remarkably easy to handle even for inexperienced (but sufficiently determined) users.
Microsoft Space Simulator uses Newtonian laws of motion but takes account of relativistic effects by decreasing a spacecraft's acceleration as its speed approaches the speed of light.

This is a simulator, space pilots, with lots of switches and dials to play with and barely a decent glimpse out the puny window.
Graphically stunning, Space Simulator hands you the keys to a few real-world ships, such as the lunar excursion module and the shuttle, and to a small fleet of fantasy craft.
Space Simulator doesn't have the legs of Microsoft's own Flight Simulator, but it's both accessible to beginners and deep enough for an Omni kind of crowd.

Microsoft Train Simulator   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Microsoft Train Simulator is a new PC simulation game that builds on the success of the many flight simulators, including Microsoft Flight Simulator, that have attracted PC gamers interested in the experience of flying airplanes.
Microsoft Train Simulator brings the power and excitement of some of the world's most famous trains to your PC, placing you in the role of engineer with unprecedented realism, exciting real-world rail challenges, and the tools to recreate almost any railroad experience in the world.
Microsoft also worked with railroad companies, such as BNSF and Amtrak, to create authentic trains with realistic performance and sounds, all coded into the game and controlled by the player with the controls in the engineer's cab.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X (pc: 2006): Reviews
The MS Flight Simulator X is resource-intensive, so even though there are low settings for all graphics and activity options, to get the most out of this latest version of the state-of-the-art civilian flying software you'll want to run it on the fastest hardware you can get your hands on.
Flight Simulator X looks to have touched down six-to-twelve months too early for much of its target audience but, as its score reflects, it's an extraordinarily well-crafted piece of software and one of the most significant releases in flight simming history.
For the true flight simulator addicts, they’ll definitely want to get the deluxe edition of the game as it is probably about the only thing that would be able to sate their hunger for more unique flight experiences.

MICROSOFT SPACE SIMULATOR by BAO (Bruce Artwick Organization)
The missions were on tv--guys in white suits driving around the lunar surface in dune buggies and planting flags that didn't flap in the wind.
Space flight appears (to a layman) to be scientifically accurate.
And since much of space flight is not the rapid, seat of the pants kind of maneuvering of an airplane in FLIGHT SIMULATOR, the program does not need the same kind of constant hands-on control.

The loyalty that MSS inspires to this day is a testament to the quality of the program and the power of simulation as a fantasy amplifier.
After the demise of Microsoft Space Simulator, hardcore space simulator fans were left without any outlet until late 2000, when Orbiter arrived.

 rec.aviation.simulators Frequently Asked Questions
Realism is a highly subjective issue: a simulator might model each blade of grass on the approach end of a runway, but if the user's flying overhead at 37,000', that won't affect his perception of *realism* at that point.
Simulation is, therefore, the *art* of providing the expected cues and response characteristics for a specified mission.
Which flight simulator is best for me? The answer to this question, like all others of this type, is "it depends on what you want to use it for".

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004: A Century of Flight (pc: 2003): Reviews
With enough features to fill a 747 flight manual, MSFS2004 provides a level of flying simulation on the PC that was unimaginable even a few years ago.
Graphically, Flight Simulator 2004 is the most attractive yet, especially in the clouds department, though the ground scenery looks much better higher up, but objects such as skyscrapers, greenery and airport towers aren't as detailed up close.
MSF2004 does an amazing job at incorporating history into the simulation, and it sets itself aside from the other flight sims in the series, and from any flight sim for that matter.
