The Mid West is reknown for it's richness in a diverse range of attractions - wildflowers, national parks, beautiful scenery of the gorges and coastal cliffs.
The City of Geraldton, with a population of 25,000, is the capital of the Mid West region and the commercial centre and port for the Batavia Coast.
The Mid West produces harvests of many kinds, not the least of them wildflowers and the towns of Carnamah, Three Springs, Coorow, Perenjori, Morawa, Mingenew and Mullewa are in the heart of wildflower and grain growing country.

The hamlet of Greenough is located 250 miles (400 KM) north of Perth and 15 miles (24 KM) south of the major regional centre of Geraldton.

Though many European maritime explorers encountered or were even wrecked on the Houtman Abrolhos islands 60 km to the west of Geraldton in the 17th and 18th centuries, there seems to be no evidence that any made landfall near the site of the current town.

SEVERAL large Chinese corporations will be on full alert as environmental regulators in Perth have moved against one new mine operation -- and indicated they will comb the whole mid-west region of Western Australia for plants and animals that may be endangered by future mining projects.
The EPA decision coincided with the announcement on Tuesday by West Australian Resources Minister John Bowler of a review of the mid-west iron ore industry aimed at protecting what he called "special biodiversity".
