A grant was awarded to Middlesbrough Borough Council to employ a community liaison officer (CLO) to facilitate the declaration of local nature reserves (LNRs) across Middlesbrough.
The CLO will develop a working partnership with the Middlesbrough Access Project Officer who targets particular groups under-represented in their use of the countryside and greenspaces for recreation.
Sue Antrobus, the CLO, will identify other potential LNRs with the aim of bringing Middlesbrough up to English Nature’s recommended level of LNR provision.

Middlesbrough Corporation Tramways Department commenced direct operation of local passenger transport in 1921 in succession to the Imperial Tramways Company Limited, and ceased in 1968 when the Corporation itself was subsumed into the new Teesside County Borough authority.
In the period 1966-1968, many other substantial alterations were discussed, planned and agreed, but none came into effect until after the Middlesbrough authority had been absorbed into Teesside on 1st April, 1968.

 Dialect and Regional Identity in the North East
Billingham was opposed to inclusion in the Teesside Borough in '68.
The Stockton dialect must have been similar to the nearby dialects spoken in the areas where Hartlepool and Middlesbrough would grow and I can't believe that the native Stockton dialect was completely wiped out.
As you say, Stockton was a well established town as was Yarm and, for that matter, so was Darlington and I think anyone from outside the Tees Valley, would be hard put to separate Darlington from the other towns further east as regards accent.
