  Arthur Middleton Portrait-www.scstatehouse.net - LPITS-
Arthur Middleton was the son of Henry Middleton, and was born in the year 1743, at the seat of his father, at Middleton place, near the banks of the Ashley.
Middleton was, at this time, a man of great wealth, and both by himself and family the approaching controversy between Great Britain and her American colonies might have been viewed with great concern, had not the patriotism with which they were imbued much preferred the welfare of their country, to their private interests.
Middleton relinquished his seat in Congress, and returned to South Carolina, leaving behind him, in the estimation of those who had been associated with him in the important measures of congress, during the time he had been with them, the character of a man of the purest patriotism, of sound judgment, and unwavering resolution.

Middleton Road: humps, cushions or mode filters?
Residents in Middleton Road, E8, are understandably tired of all the noisy through motor traffic that goes past their door, even though the street is part of the strategic cycle network and was quite recently fitted out with 'pillows' to try to encourage motor vehicle operators to cut their speed.
Several locals have suggested that replacing the cushions with 'traditional' humps that go all the way across the street would be a more effective way to reduce motor speeds, and the Dalston Neighourhood Committee discussed this at their request on 3 January 2001.
Myddleton Road is an important cycle route in Hackney and a designated route on the London Cycle Network.

 The Puritan, by Thomas Middleton
Middleton became a serious candidate with the support of F. Fleay and A. Bullen, and the textual analyses of Mark Eccles and David Lake have more or less confirmed his authorship.
(Pyeboard, as well as Middleton himself, also spent time at Oxford.) The extant copy of Peele's jest-book is dated 1607, but because it was entered in the Stationer's Register on December 14, 1605, it probably existed in an earlier edition.
Composition of The Puritan can date from no later than 1606 because the Children of Paul's, the company for whom Middleton wrote and for whom the play was written, disbanded at the end of that year.
