Midgard, our Earth, does not appear to be physically affected by the motions of any of the other physical bodies in the Asgardian cosmology, although Earth's axis (the imaginary pole around which it rotates) is in alignment with one of the roots of Yggdrasil, the cosmic ash tree that stands in Asgard.
The first is the Midgard Serpent Jormungand, an immense snake-like dragon whose bodyencircles the inner edge of the mountains of Jotunheim closest to Midgard.
The Midgard Serpent lies at the very edge of the dimensional boundry between Jotunheim and Midgard, and prevents passage between dimensions.

CONK! Encyclopedia: Thor   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
He called Thor weak when he only lifted the paw of a cat, the cat being the illusion of the Midgard Serpent.
One theory is that Germanic god Thor is loan from Finno-Ugrians, although the Hittite Tarhunt and the Sanskrit Indra seem to be cognates pointing to a pan-Indo-European phenomenon.
Marvel Comics publishes a comic book series called The Mighty Thor, in which modernized versions of the Asgardian gods inhabit the Marvel Universe.

Norse Mythology in Comic Books   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
True to his mythological foundation, the comic book Thor was not what one might consider a "quick study." The Son of Odin, though overflowing with bravery and determination, lacked the intelligence and wit to save himself from dastardly plans in both the myths and in the comics.
Throughout the history of this comic character, Odin has had a reputation as being a hard deity to please; the dual nature of his personality (his opportunities to be both fatherly and a harsh disciplinarian) is as prominent in modern appearances as it was in the Norse myths.
The Midgard Serpent, fated to be the creature that both kills and is killed by the mighty Thor, lies deep in the oceans of Midgard (Earth); he is so large that his coils envelop the entire ocean floor.

Strength level (comics)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Strength level is a concept sometimes applied to comic book characters (particularly those published by Marvel Comics) to define and compare the physical strength of characters.
Strength level is an unofficial form of classification, as due to the nature of comic book fiction, such standards are loose and writers are given a wide latitude for interpreting them.
Also, as demonstrated in different comic book universes, such as the DC Universe, physical strength is measured by how much weight a being can lift above his or her head, this is referred to as a military press.

 Neil V. Barnes - Criticism - Comics
Comics combined the visual and the narrative, and due to the limited special effects available only comics could do superheroes justice.
Comic books were stamped indelibly onto popular culture with the advent of the superheroes and the union was so strong that comic books and superheroes became synonomous, much to the dismay of later, free-thinking comics professionals.
Jane Foster ran to him and explained that it was him she loved and that it was all a mistake, but by then his pride was wounded and with his mystic hammer Mjolnir he flew off to brood.

[Ritual] About Thor   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The reason for this is simple: Thor was the God of the common man. Thor was then and is now the defender of both Asgard and of Midgard (earth), and he is a warrior without peer, but he still is not a God of war or battle.
Popularized by the uninitiated (and the long-running Marvel Comics© comic book by the same name), the Thunderer is often mistaken for a god of battle or war.
Thor's doom (destiny) is to kill Jormungand, the Midgard serpent, on the plain of Vigard at Ragnarok, but in the process he will die from the serpent's poison.

I've been a comic fan for over 20 year (dear God), and I enjoy discussions about the medium that dig a little deeper then which costume is cooler or who would beat up who.
These are tough to answer, but given Norse mythology points to a day when Thor will be killed, swallowed whole by the Midgard serpent (which might simply be a symbolic way of saying he'll be buried in the Earth), you have to think he has limits.

This comic was published in the go-go comic speculator market in the 90’s, shortly before everyone realized that maybe they should have spent their money on gold or sports cards – anything but comics.
Not only is it bad, but this comic was read by people who may have not looked at a comic for years, if at all.

One constant in newsgroups and letters pages is people complaining or pointing out how unrealistic something in a comic book is. They have no problem accepting that a man can fly or ignite himself, but they still demand a certain amount of reality in their comics.
