Midge Ure: The Gift [Bonus Tracks] : Music Reviews : Rolling Stone
Ure's is a suave sensibility, often very Ferry, but lacking Bryan's underlying hysteria and extravagant high irony.
Midge Ure's identification with his listeners blends with a kind of neo-Yeatsian paranoia on "Wastelands," which owes more thematically to "Baba O'Riley" than to T.S. Eliot.
Ure's uncharacteristically dark vision is of a lad alone in his room, psychically detached as he takes solace and comfort in his favorite records.

One of the key members of the new wave band Ultravox, guitarist/vocalist Midge Ure began his professional music career with Salvation, a Glasgow-based group that became the bubblegum band Slik in 1974.
Ure spent a brief time with the Misfits (not the American hardcore band) before forming Visage with drummer Rusty Egan and vocalist Steve Strange; he left the group to replace Gary Moore in Thin Lizzy, who left in the middle of an American tour.
Recorded entirely by Ure, his 1985 solo debut, The Gift, launched the number one single "If I Was," as well as the minor hits "That Certain Smile" and "Call of the Wild." The following year, he recorded the final Ultravox album; in 1987, the band broke up and he began recording his second solo album.

Move Me finds Midge Ure moving seamlessly into the role of a pop/rock elder statesman without sacrificing any of the emotion and fervor of his earlier recordings, both as a solo artist and a member of Ultravox.
Synthesizers, electronics, and guitars play a prominent role on every track, however, Ure is able to sidestep the 1980s retro label that many of his contemporaries get stuck in by striking an aural balance between taste and overkill.
This is not necessarily the album to introduce the uninitiated to Midge Ure, but it is a praiseworthy addition to his catalog, and gradually grows on the listener.
