		Mielec is a town in south-eastern Poland with 63,300 inhabitants (2003).
		Stal Mielec - men's soccer team playing in Poland's Ekstraklasa Premier League: 1st place in 1972/1973 season; 1st place in 1975/1976 season; 2nd place in 1973/1974 season; 2nd place in 1974/1975 season; 3rd place in 1983/1984 season.
		Mielec became part of the Austrian Empire in 1772, in which it remained until Poland regained its independence in 1918.

		The silver griffin suggests the arms of the Gryfit clan which owned these lands from the beginning of the 14th century (before that it was a property of the Benedictines of Tync.) From the name of the settlement, Mielec, this branch of the Gryfit clan formed its surname, Mieleccy.

	Poland's PZL Mielec PZL Mielec signs offset deals as part of F-16 defense bid
		Defense concerns Lockheed Martin and Northop Grumman, producers of the F-16 aircraft, have signed contracts to a potential value exceeding $200 million with PZL Mielec in direct offset deals as part of their bid to supply a multipurpose jet for the Polish military.
		Lockheed will offer PZL Mielec modernization, through transfer of advanced technology, enabling the plant to secure contracts for production of civil aviation components.
		The Mielec plant will also receive assistance in obtaining an FAA certificate for the M-28 SkyTruck and its worldwide sale.

	GRIPEN STRENGTHENS PARTNERSHIP WITH MIELEC
		Gripen International partners Saab and BAE SYSTEMS and the Polish Aviation Company in Mielec, have signed a number of new Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) covering a wide range of manufacturing, engineering and technology work linked to the supply of Gripen supersonic, multi-role fighters to the Polish Air Force.
		Should Gripen be selected to meet the national and NATO defense needs of Poland, the Mielec plant, which already produces tail-cone components for all Gripen aircraft, will undertake a significant amount of new work, including final assembly of Polish Air Force aircraft.
		This further commitment by the Gripen team is covered in a further MOU between the Gripen team and Mielec Tooling Company.
