Historically the area was called Higo province and was renamed to Kumamoto prefecture during the Meiji Restoration as part of the abolition of the feudal system.
Kumamoto Prefecture is located in the center of Kyushu, the southernmost of the four major Japanese islands.

While the actual demonstration was free of the fatality portrayed in the movie, Chizuko--like Shizuko--was accused of being a charlatan, a blow from which she never recovered.

In March of Showa 55, because of the advancing age of Yurin Kaneko, 94, the ancestry and art of the Takeda school was passed to the chief of the family, Shirou Ietaka Kaneko,.

Original contacts and arrangements for this musical tour were made through the assistance of Shoji Shimada, a Japanese high school English teacher from Kumamoto who taught in the Bozeman and Belgrade public schools the past two years.

Actually, I did not bring Ringu into the discussion, but the true facts, that Ringu was based on.
Fukurai, Mifune Chizuko, and Takahashi Sadako really existed (Ringu characters are Dr. Ikuma, Yamamura Shizuko, and Yamaura Sadako, so to make it clear for you).

By the time they had regrouped and started a long retreat, a larger conscript army commanded by Aritomo Yamagata (who would become the first prime minister under the Meiji Constitution), equipped with better weapons and supported by much better logistics, had caught up with them.

Having just had a Ringu, Ring, Ring Virus film festival I am entirely certain I did not want to learn this bit of Ring trivia.
I can only imagine what Mifune Chizuko would make of the film(s) based on Suzuki Koji's novel.
I had avoided Ringu due to marketing comparisons of its American remake with the entirely mediocre Sixth Sense.

A former journalist, upper house MP, and governor of Kumamoto Prefecture, Hosokawa quit the Liberal-Democratic Party and formed the Japan New Party in May 1992 when public dissatisfaction with the ruling LDP’s handling of national affairs was beginning to crest.
After the Lower House Diet election in the summer of 1993, Hosokawa became the first non-LDP prime minister in nearly 40 years by cobbling together a seven-party coalition that took the reigns of government from August 1993 to April 1994.
