  The Mighty Mighty Bosstones (11/4/95)
The reason is simple, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones have built a reputation for themselves by putting on incredible live shows and influencing an entire half-generation of kids with their famous ethos of plaid, the Red Sox, and that famous Bulldog.
Bosstones fans have such a common feeling that it's as if they're on the same wavelength and don't need to be told not to hurt eachother.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Biography - AOL Music
A great deal of the groundwork for the mid- to late-'90s explosion of ska and ska-metal was laid by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, who were one of the first bands to cross high-energy ska with hardcore punk and heavy metal and also helped shift its tone toward testosterone-filled party music.
Originally calling themselves simply the Bosstones, the group appended "Mighty Mighty" to their name after discovering a Boston-area a cappella group with an identical moniker.
In 1993, the Bosstones signed a major-label deal with Mercury and released Don't Know How to Party; in spite of their fondness for plaid, a holdover from their early pajama-clad gigs, the group also landed a television commercial for a jean company.

In 1985, the Bosstones made their recorded debut, when they were featured on the Mash It Up ska compilation.

When one mentions the Mighty Mighty Bosstones in a music conversation, there are certain images that automatically pop into your head if you are at all familiar with the early history of the band.
The Bosstones transformed a pretty boring song into something that was not to be missed because of a chorus that was completely unexpected.
While not the Bosstones best release (that belongs to Pay Attention), or my personal favorite (that's a toss up between PA and Don't Know How To Party), Question the Answers is a terrific release that is an essential album for Bosstones' fans.

The perplexing part of this equation is these once and future rude boys from Boston have never sounded better or more ready for prime time; their metal-ska punk has been honed to a fine, serrated edge, with much of the furious posturing of years past gone.
Always a tight and flashy band, this time out the Bosstones have spent considerable time crafting a set of dynamic lyrics that are cinematic in scope, with a barely hidden moral center that shines brightly.
I have been a Bosstones fan since I heard Don't know how to party in 94' and have all of their CDs now and I really think that this is the best of them all.

MetroActive Music | The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
Dicky Barrett, lead singer for the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, knew when the band released their 1997 CD Let's Face It, chances were good that it would be a commercial breakthrough.
Now the Bosstones have graduated from cult status to mainstream popularity without losing their core audience or their integrity, and Barrett realizes the band can work from a real position of strength.
And to not take advantage of it, to not say people who like the Bosstones like the Bosstones because they're the Bosstones, and that's up to us to decide who the Bosstones are (would have been a mistake).

The Mighty Mighty BossToneS have also promised never to sell out, to be the best ska-core band the world has seen, to always produce great music.
The Mighty Mighty BossToneS are also against racism and ignorance (which is clearly shown in the song "Let's Face it").

The Bosstones remain second only to Pearl Jam as far as my favorite bands go, but that does not mean I will like everything the band does.
The song is by far one of the greatest odes to schoolyard bullies ever written, and it's anthemic chorus and bridge will have you screaming right along with Dicky at the top of your lungs.
Perhaps it is the overall weakness of this record that has led the Bosstones to nowhere near the success of it with Pay Attention.

The Mighty Mighty Bosstones: Barroom Bravado at the Bowery Ballroom (NY Rock)
Combining thrashy ska, hardcore and the punky attitude of your neighborhood bar band, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones pulled the punches in a tour-de-force of mixed beats, skiffed-up rhythms and the baddest-ass horn section in town.
In a last-minute surprise show to kick-off their latest release Pay Attention, May 1, 2000, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones played with all the guts and glory of an Ivy League football team making a goal-line run.
An equal opportunity blowout, some of the ladies got into the spirit of the evening, stage diving and having their bodies hoisted skyward, poked and prodded like oranges at a fruit-stand as they made their way back to the front like lambs to slaughter.

Review of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones' "Let's Face It"
While the first four members give the Bosstones a very traditional rock feel, it is their combination with the last four which gives the band its personality.
However while the bio does illustrate the creative side of The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, it is a bit generous with the conclusions.
Obviously with eight guys in the band parts have to be written for all of them, but it takes a very skilful musician (or musicians) to write an entire collection of songs like this without it sounding contrived.

At a time when so much of the industry’s output has become the musical equivalent of junk mail, a new BOSSTONES album is like receiving a series of postcards from a vacationing friend: handwritten, infectiously fun, wish-you-were-here inclusive, and, overall, personal.
And fortunately for the world, the Boston-based wild bunch was recently inspired to record one of its best thus far.

I don't want to give the impression that this is a bad thing (to the contrary, the boys do quite well with this stuff), it just took me by surprise -- even most of Let's Face It was harder-edged than that album's "hits" would lead you to believe.
I don't want to sound like I'm paying left hand compliments, here, because the Bosstones have really turned out a strong record, it's just that while Pay Attention is a logical progression from Let's Face It, it's still a progression I didn't expect.
The final verdict, though, is that I do like Pay Attention a lot, even though I really had to pay attention to come to that conclusion.

Never officially titled, this EP is also referred to as simply Mighty Mighty Bosstones.
Two originals, including the title track, are present, as well as several punked-out hard rock covers: Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion," Metallica's "Enter Sandman," and Van Halen's "Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love." Logically, this one emphasizes the punk/metal components of the Bosstones' sound over their ska influence.
