  Miguel López de Legazpi - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Born in 1502, Miguel López de Legazpi was the youngest son of Don Juan Martínez López de Legazpi and Elvira Gurruchategui.
He was later commissioned by the viceroy, Luis de Velasco, in early 1564, to lead an expedition in the Pacific Ocean, to find the Spice Islands where the previous explorers Ferdinand Magellan and Ruy López de Villalobos had landed in 1521 and 1543, respectively.
López de Legazpi governed the colony for a year before dying of heart failure in Manila in 1572.

The settlement first encountered the Spaniards in 1565, where the Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi and the native chieftain Datu Sikatuna pledged peace and cooperation through the famous blood compact, where they drew their own blood, mixed it with wine and drank together.
One of the most important historical events etched in the annals in the Philippine history and immortalized in canvass by the famous Filipino painter Juan Luna as one of his masterpieces, is the famous Blood Compact between Datu Sikatuna, a local native chieftain, and Captain Miguel Lopez de Legaspi, the intrepid Spanish explorer and colonizer.
On that day, March 16, 1565, Captain General Miguel Lopez de Legaspi, the conquistador from Zumaraga, Spain, with Fray Andres de Urdaneta and some of his crew set foot on land for an audience with the local chieftain Sikatuna.

The second expedition under Miguel Lopez de Legaspi was sent by his son, Philip II who ruled Spain for 42 years from 1556.
The same emblem was carried all the way from that time, through the Legaspi's expedition in 44 years after Magellan, on to others that would come to the country in those days, such as Loaisa, Saavedra and the Villalobos expeditions.

Legaspi’s expedition was the fifth the Spanish crown had sent to the archipelago.
Legaspi sailed from Natividad, Mexico the surrogate of the crown of Spain on November 21, 1564 with Father Andres Urdaneta and reached Cebu on February 13, 1565.
Legaspi’s coming and his plea for mercy that he and his men were not the same people who had wronged them did not soften the anger of the natives.

Legaspi's fleet first landed in Cebu on February 13, 1565 but it did not stay long because the natives were hostile.
While the Spaniards were initiating friendly relations with the natives, Legaspi sent out emissaries to the chieftain, Rajah Sikatuna, who was the only chieftain contacted at that time, but he was reluctant at the outset to meet the Spanish general believing that he was Portuguese.
A sharp dagger was used in cutting slightly both the arms of Legaspi and Siaktuna, then having their blood mixed in a cup of wine.

In 1574, at the height of the Spanish colonization of the islands, Guido de Lavizares mentioned in his letter to the King of Spain the land of ""Los Camarines"" — apparently referring to the area of what is now Camalig, Albay, where rice storehouses and granaries or “camarin” abound.

General de la Barca came to Bohol on July 4, 1742 at Baclayon, Bohol, and he supervised the election of officials for the new town.
He said, "In the island of Bohol, in the villages of Loboc, Baclayon, Dauis, Maribojoc, San Miguel de Hagna, Talibon and Ynabanga…" This indicate that in 1738 the town of Tagbilaran was not yet in existence.
