In the early 1970s, pop-rock geniuses the Hollies hired Mikael Rickfors, a Swedish fellow, as their lead singer.
Though I've never heard any of the Hollies' recordings with Rickfors, I can't help wondering if it sounded anything like The Rhinos. It's certainly worth mentioning, though, because The Rhinos are a wonderfully retro-based band, with some really lovely harmonies, and yes, they are very reminiscent of bands such as the Hollies and the Byrds.
After all, I'd rather listen to a band who have really good harmonies and melodies and are somewhat unoriginal than I would to a band that's original yet completely devoid of harmonies and melodies and things that pretty songs are made of.

With Rickfors, who sometimes couldn't mask a heavy accent, the Hollies were forced to work much harder in the studio.
This resulted in Rickfors being dismissed, Clarke being welcomed back, and the Hollies resuming life as a band living on a repertoire of hit singles.
Mikael Rikfors was a Tom Jones soundalike singer who could barely understand English.

The band continued to record and tour sporadically in various lineups through the mid-1980s.

 Only Solitaire - Message Board
It is certainly one of The Hollies best albums and the "proper" album of the Rickfors era containing all Hollies originals (well crafted rock/ pop numbers).
It probably has a harder sound than any Hollies album possibly helped by Rickfors being a fine lead guitarist and all round musician.
I think you have unfairly dismissed Mikael Rickfors because of Romany which comess across as half trying to be CSN, half trying to re-live Long Cool Woman.

I'm sorry I missed this thread the first time, because you probably already found out, but the title of the song is in the ????s -- "Blue Fun" by Mikael Rickfors.
Somebody high up at MTV must have been a fan of it, because it wasn't released in the U.S. Well, they got good taste -- it's an awesome song.
Rickfors' claim to fame was being in The Hollies back in the early '70s.

Mikael Rickfors has had a rich and varied career.
One would assume that it would be enough to have had numerous hit singles and albums in his native Sweden and be known as that country's number one blue-eyed soul singer but that doesn't quite tell the story.
