Michael Breaugh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Breaugh was educated at Peterborough Teachers' College, Queen's University and the University of Toronto.
Breaugh again defeated O'Flynn to win the by-election, which was held on August 13, a month before the 1990 Ontario election that brought Rae's NDP to power.
Breaugh was reduced to a fourth-place finish in Oshawa, where the local branch of the Canadian Auto Workers had previously disaffiliated from the NDP.

Mike has written, as you know, in the Canadian Parliamentary Review about our parliamentary process and has sought changes to our parliamentary process, particularly in the last three or four years, when he and I and the member for Middlesex sat on many occasions to try to draft new standing orders for this Legislative Assembly.
I believe that Mike brought to those discussions a practicality that was very necessary in order for this Legislative Assembly to evolve into a practical living place so that people would have a better opportunity to understand what we are doing here and relate what we are doing here more to their day-to-day lives.
Mike has always proven, when sitting in the chair, that he has an understanding and a feel for all three parties within here and where we are coming from, plus the respect for the institution and not forcing, but having each of us as members respect the role of the Chair.

Floyd Laughren was planning to retire as well, but had not finalized his plans when a snap election was called in the summer of 1990.
The Progressive Conservatives were led by the inexperienced Mike Harris, who did not have a strong public profile at the time -- as such, Rae's NDP was the primary beneficiary of the Liberal slide.
In 1996, Rae resigned as party leader and as MPP for York South, and moved to positions in academia and in the private sector.

In one riding held by a member of Rae's cabinet, NDP signs put up automatically on the lawns of union households are being torn up and replaced by Liberal or PC signs the next day.
Even Mike Breaugh, who left Queen's Park to represent the NDP in former federal leader Ed Broadbent's stronghold of Oshawa, is worried that the backlash against Rae's social contract could cause him to lose.
Meanwhile, Mike Harris' PCs are riding the Kim Campbell wave of popularity that has made her the most popular party leader in Canada.

Mr Mike Colle (Oakwood): I think it's appropriate, as the member for York South mentioned, that the minister's premise for this megacity madness is based on a report that has the same heading as Preston Manning's campaign slogan: Fresh Start.
For the Mike Harris government to give polluters a chance to modify toxic emissions standards in secret and then go through a charade of public process, you are showing contempt for the Environmental Bill of Rights and thus the people of Ontario.
I remember that during the election campaign Mike Harris said, "I have no plans to close hospitals." He also said that his plan was to abolish the Metro level of government.

(Mike Breaugh, Oshawa NDP MP, 1990-1993 on "The House" CBC Radio One broadcast, July 24, 1999).
Some claim (see, for example, former MP Mike Breaugh's statement, above) that the recent demise of the social democratic NDP (New Democratic Party) is due in large part to an ideological 'drift' on the part of traditional working-class supporters which is centred in the proletariat's somewhat newfound, relative affluence.
The widespread belief, as expressed by former Oshawa MP Mike Breaugh above, is that unionized manual assembly workers have progressively gained monetary concessions from their employers and subsequently spend these earnings on a multitude of consumer goods (see for example Ehrenreich, 1989) and a more middle-class lifestyle.

But Harnick has now testified at a public enquiry he clearly heard the remark made by then premier Mike Harris, but did not say so in the legislature, because it is merely a political forum in which he did not feel the same obligation to tell the truth.

 The Tempest
Wegman beautifully shows the changes that overcome Prospero; when he finally kneels to the level of the savage Caliban, it's a simple, lovely thing.
Others do well in smaller roles - Don Capparella as a wonderfully goofy Ferdinand; the rubber-faced Bruce Edward Barton as a squeaky-voiced jester; Todd Patrick Breaugh as Prospero's unrepentant brother, Antonio, and Lawrence Bull as his dopey, sycophantic sidekick.
Too often this Tempest works in fits and starts: Prospero's hellhounds aren't loud or scary enough, and a banquet table that is supposed to disappear isn't visible enough to begin with.
