Starting out as a musician in the 1960s, Dickin was a bass player and singer who found he preferred playing records to making them when he joined the BBC in 1970 as the first presenter on air at Radio Oxford.
Dickin was famous for his strongly held views.
Mike Dickin was killed in a car accident, near his home in Cornwall, on December 18th 2006.

Mike also spends plenty of his leisure time in France where he has property and is said to be retiring across the English Channel when he hangs up his headphones for the final time.

I think Mike Dickin is generally OK when I sometimes catch him between 12-1am.
I do remember listening to him a few years ago, when he was on during the day sometime and he seemed to be more irrate then than he is now during the late evening.
Although Mike is a good listen, I don't think the current show is as good as ones I've heard him do in the past.

Mike has no patience for callers who "aren't up to hisstandard" and any callers like this will be dealt with in a swiftmanner.
Mike Dickin will not tolerate people enquiring as to the stateof his health and also has a short fuse for callers who use the terms"basically, at the end of the day" and he also detests being called"mate".
Although in recent months Mike has relented from telling peopleoff for using such phrases they are still a subject of much dislikefrom the big man and should be used at callers peril.

Mike Dicken has his old TalkRadio show midmorning to lunch time and his topics are always about refugees and asylum seekers and to me he transparantly uses the callers views to air racist and plain ignorant nonsense.
Mike Dicken does have the tendency to overstep the mark at times, but this is the point of his show.

On the show Mike and people who phone in discus a topic that has been in the news in the past week or just a very interesting topic such the origin of phrases we use and parking tickets.
I always laugh at this show it is on BBC Radio 7 at some point on a thursday, I have never listened over the radio I always use the BBC listen again feature.
