Mike Glyer, Fan Guest of Honour
Glyer named an early fanzine Prehensile, one of the better zine titles; he eventually moved on to File 770, named for the party in Room 770 at the 1951 Worldcon that upstaged the convention, clearly the right spirit.
Glyer asked "Is there any new business?" Johnstone, looking at the ashtray, answered "No." Glyer said "Seeing none --" He was re-elected Secretary a lot more often.
Glyer seems to have succeeded here too by virtue of the same qualities we have been noting.

But we fans who give Hugos hope that, even when the execution is flawed, the winners will endure good-naturedly because Hugos represent our admiration and affection for them -- and that ought to be worth a smile.
Mike's article generated quite a bit of comment, including one from George Flynn, who added his own contribution to the collection of Hugo ceremony mishaps: "When I was Hugo Administrator in 1980, we had the last official presentation of the Gandalf Award for Grand Master of Fantasy.
At the last minute, a final ballot arrived by sea mail from England and gave it to Ray Bradbury by one vote [so] I sent the results off to Lin Carter, who sponsored the award and was responsible for showing up with the plaque.

I'm happy to say that Mike Glyer, the publisher of File 770, is made of sterner stuff than that -- he hasn't let a slip from quarterly to annual publication dim his enthusiasm for what is still the most detailed newszine currently in production.
Glyer certainly recognizes this situation, and has a web presence that could theoretically provide a timely source of news if he felt moved to update it more frequently.
What seem to be occasionally rather banal details of recent fan life are unlikely to be as well-recorded in any other location, and Glyer's stature as a fan of all trades means that he is likely to remain a well-regarded source well into fandom's future.
