Defensively, Lieberthal won a Gold Glove in 1999, but hasn't really been the same since he tore up his knee in 2001.
Lieberthal has been an All-Star twice, in 1999 and 2000, and also had an excellent season in 2003 (the team's top player after some guy named Thome) How he performs could be crucial to the overall team's success.
This season will be a strong indicator if 2004 was just an off year for Lieberthal or if he is in decline and it's time to go in another direction behind the plate.
