MikeSelinker: It's a mantra I taught myself at Wizards: "I am not the target market." Neither are my fellow designers, nor are their kids.
MikeSelinker: I don't think I've ever had more fun and more heartache on a game than the revision of Axis and Allies, where I had to be the guy to decide which rules got in and which got cut.
MikeSelinker: People are still writing reams of optional rules for everything from submarines to 1-defense infantry to victory conditions.
MikeSelinker: I eventually had to come to a definition of what a "book" is. I mean, I've done some or all of a couple dozen roleplaying books and puzzle books, but those don't seem like books to a lot of people.
MikeSelinker: I used to have fights with folks about this at Wizards, where some people thought that having multiple designers' name on a box sent a mixed message to customers about what they could expect.

Mike took over the reins of the Avalon Hill line and now the fruits of his labor are coming to light.
Mike was good enough to take the time to answer some questions about the Avalon Hill line and his future in the gaming world.
MikeSelinker: I resigned from Wizards at the end of last year, once I was certain that the first four games in the Avalon Hill line were in great shape.
Selinker: After we got back, we realized that Mother Nature was deeply offended that druids, rangers, and barbarians hadn't gotten the treatment they deserved in DandD.
Selinker: Well, there are only two of us, you know.
Selinker: It generally helps us to speak in chart form.
