Mike Furtman, the wonderful outdoor writer and photographer, was writing to tell me about a fascinating bird he’d had the day before in his Duluth backyard—a virtually all-white Barred Owl.
Mike’s immediate impulse, naturally, was to take photographs, and to alert the Hawk Ridge naturalist, Debbie Waters, who was there in a flash, with bander Dave Grossheusch not far behind.
Mike Furtman’s white Barred Owl has clearly made it through at least 9 months of life, and may be much older—age is harder to ascertain on a bird with abnormal plumage than one colored normally.

White has moved from indie film to major studio production and switched genres with as much deft and creative energy as James Brown during a sold out performance of "Sex Machine." A native of L.A., White thought he’d spend his post-college years in New York City writing for the stage.

They both have a complete resistance to a certain stage of development.” These twitchy Peter Pans never grow up—in School of Rock, the rising indie star and Tenacious D front man plays a megalomaniacal rock wannabe—and they admit that childhood often hurts.
