In 1916 Tsereteli was a representative of Georgia in the Union of Nations in Lausanne, in 1918-1919 Ambassador of the Democratic Republic of Georgia (DRG) in Sweden and Norway.
In 1921-1933 Tsereteli was a Professor of the University of Brussels (Belgium), in 1933-1945 Professor of the Berlin University.
Tsereteli were: Sumerology, history of Georgia and the Caucasus, history of Ibero-Caucasian civilization, Rustvelology (Shota Rustaveli was a great Georgian Poet of the 12th century), the rights of the Nations (Peoples), sociology, etc. He was author of more than 80 scientific-research works (among them about 10 monographs).

Mikheil Tsereteli, Petre Surguladze, Valerian Gunia and others were founders of the underground group of independence of Georgia and the newspaper "Eri" ("The Nation") in Tbilisi.
In March, 1992 - November, 2003 the Republic of Georgia was ruled by the dictatorial regime of E. Shevardnadze, former KGB General and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the former Soviet empire, main organizer of the military coup d'etat of December-January, 1991-1992.

His brother was Professor Mikheil Tsereteli, a famous Georgian historian and public benefactor.
His son Giorgi Tsereteli was a distinguished orientalist, Academician of the Georgian Academy of Sciences, his daughter Tinatin Tsereteli was also a famous scientist (jurist), a Corresponding Member of the Georgian Academy of Sciences.
In 1882 Tsereteli graduated from the Gymnasium in Kutaisi, in 1899 from the Medical Faculty of the Kiev University (Ukraine).
