		Translated as “Man of 1,000 Masks,” the flashy Mil Mascaras was the first Lucha Libre personality created specifically to be a movie star; and the character was promoted in various wrestling magazines before Rodriguez, at just age 23, was handpicked to play the role due to his chiseled physique, acting ability, and judo skills.
		The character’s first film, titled simply “Mil Mascaras,” was released in 1966 and portrayed him as a comic book hero who was an orphan child adopted by scientists and then raised to become the world’s most perfect physical specimen while fighting criminals and other villains.
		A legitimate trend-setter, Mil Mascaras was one of the sport’s most innovative in-ring performers, inspiring legions of fans across the globe while serving as a major influence for future Japanese masked superstars like Tiger Mask and Jushin Liger.

		During his childhood, Mil Mascaras was very interested in the Catholic religion: he read the bible and he was an altar boy at a local church.
		Mascaras practiced bullfighting with young bulls with short horns, but even with those bulls he received four thrusts so he called it quits before anything serious happened.
		The original plan was to have Mascaras feud with the IWA North American champ, Ox Baker, all over the states during a year which would finish in a title vs. title match at the MSG, but those plans were broken as Baker shortly left, apparently because he was threatened by other promoters.
