  Amilcare Ponchielli - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ricordi and Co. and the musical establishment at the Conservatory and at La Scala.
In 1881, Ponchielli was appointed maestro di cappella of the Bergamo Cathedral, and from the same year he was a professor of composition at the Milan Conservatory, where among his students were Giacomo Puccini and Pietro Mascagni.
He died in Milan and was interred there in the Cimitero Monumentale.

Bottesini's home while he was a student at the Milan Conservatory -- where he unfortunately met Umberto -- then off and on throughout his life.
Verdi often urged Bottesini to settle in Milan, calling it "the only place for real opera," but Bottesini refused, writing in an 1860 letter, "In Milan I became a Man. Now I must move on." Scholars have not fully divined the meaning of this enigmatic statement.
Milan is the setting for an interesting if over-dramatized biography-in-progress on Bottesini"s early years (Forthcoming from MTIC Press).

His first teacher was G. Bernasconi and he was a pupil of the Conservatory of Milan from 1855 to 1861 under Ronchetti and Mazzucato.
Faccio became professor of harmony at the Milan Conservatory in 1868, succeeding Croff, and subseouently was made professor of counterpoint and fugue there, was chapelmaster at La Scala, Milan,, and finally succeeded Terziani as conductor there, which position he filled with distinction.
In 1842 she was appointed professor of the piano at the Conservatory of Paris, and held the position until 1873, when she retired on a pension.

Milan Bachorek was born on l8 August 1939 at Staric in the Frydek-Mistek district.
He is also an active music critic and populariser and since 1974 he had been holding the appointment as Secretary of the local branch of the Czech Composers and Concert Artists Association in Ostrava.
In his compositions, Milan Bachorek issued from a synthesis of 20th century classics heritage and ethnic melodics spread through the Beskydy Mountains foothills in Northern Moravia.

He was rejected for admission, although, to his credit, one of the examiners suggested that he "forget about the Conservatory and choose a maestro in the city." Verdi took his advice and soon began studying composition in Milan with Vincenzo Lavigna, a composer and the maestro at La Scala.
Verdi bounced back and forth between Milan and Busseto until he was named maestro of the Busseto Philharmonic in March 1836.
The opening of Otello in February of 1887 attracted an international audience to Milan for a dramatic event which ended only after the citizenry had showered Verdi with gifts and applause throughout twenty curtain calls and towed his carriage to the hotel.

Giacomo Manzoni was born in Milan on 26th September, 1932 and began studying composition in 1948 in Messina, Sicily, under the auspices of Gino Contilli, to whom he owes the discovery of his musical vocation.
From 1958 to 1966 he was a music critic for the daily paper "l' Unità", and in 1962 he began teaching harmony and counterpoint at the Milan Conservatory.
From 1969 to 1974, he taught composition at the G.B. Martini Conservatory in Bologna and from there transferred to the G. Verdi Conservatory in Milan, where he remained until 1991.

A plaque placed inside by a kindly and industrious neighbor reads: "These hammers were repaired by me seeing the good disposition the young Verdi has shown for learning to play this instrument." Struggling insistently to find the chords he wanted, the youthful composer had pounded the keys until the hammers fell to pieces.

He immediately fled Sant' Agata for the Grand Hotel in Milan and four unhappy years of what he described as "vegetation." Verdi died in 1901, the victim of a massive stroke, while his ever-loyal audience waited hopefully for six days outside the hotel for news of his recovery.
