		Milan is the capital of Lombardy and the financial capital of Italy, though superseded by Rome for share of national GDP (6,5% vs. 4,8%) at municipal level, and roughly at the same level ( 104 billion vs. 126 billion) at provincial-metropolitan level.
		After the end of the wars, Milan was part of the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia, under Austrian rule: the city became one of the main centers of Italian nationalism, reclaiming independence and the unification of Italy.
