Mildura is on the intersection of the Sturt Highway from Adelaide to Sydney, and the Calder Highway to Melbourne via Bendigo.
Mildura has the busiest regional airport in Victoria, serviced by five Qantaslink flights daily to Melbourne, three Regional Express flights to Melbourne, and two O'Conner Airlines flights daily to Adelaide.

In 1858 the property was renamed 'Mildura' after a Keramin word speculatively thought to mean 'red earth', due to the red soils of the area, or 'sore eyes', allegedly a tribute to the problems caused by the vast fly population.
Mildura became a borough in 1920, a town in 1922 and a city in 1934.
The Mildura Arts Festival is held in March, an International Balloon Fiesta at the end of June, a folk festival in July, a Country Music Week in the September school holidays, a Jazz & Wine Festival in October or November and the Mildura Show in October.

Mildura Rural City Council’s new kerbside recycling collection service moved a step closer last night with Council approving a seven-year contract with Cleanaway and the Mildura Bottle Exchange.
Mildura Rural City Councillor for the Environment, Damien Heintze, said residents will use a single 240 litre wheelie bin for all their recycling, including papers, bottles, cans and cartons, with no need to separate papers and bottles.
It is anticipated that the Mildura Rural City Council’s new kerbside recycling service will dramatically decrease the amount of household garbage going to landfill.

When I was a child, visiting Mildura, along with the pelicans, going for a ride on one of the Paddlesteamers up and down the river was one of my favorite things.
As it was over 34 degrees on the one day I had to spend in Mildura while my husband was elsewhere in the city working, my absolute Must Sees were the coolest places in town: the library and the pool.
In the southern states of Australia, canoe trees are some of the only visible relics on the landscape, and even then, to see them you need to know what you're looking for and to be able to tell the difference between a canoe tree and a tree that's been struck by lightning.

Like other hostels in Mildura, it is primarily a workers hostel.
The hostel's kitchen was dirty with dishes not being washed and food left out, which attracted the lovely mildura flies and ants!!The hostel manager's were ok if you sucked up to them which I had heard alot of people say.
Mildura International Hostel is a poor hostel overall.
