Mile High Club - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Mile High Club (or MHC) is a slang term collectively applied to individuals who have engaged in sexual activity while on board an aircraft.
The name originates from the fact that most commercial aviation cruises at an altitude of one mile or higher.
His status as founder of the club is a retrospective honor derived from the fact that he is the first person reported to have engaged in aerial sexual activity, and from his association with the development of the autopilot at Sperry Corporation.

Last mile - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The last mile problem is one of economically serving an increasing mass of end-users with a solution to their information needs.
However, in practical last mile environments, obstructions and de-steering of these beams along with absorption by elements of the atmosphere like fog and rain, particularly over longer paths, greatly restrict their use for last mile wireless communications.
higher capacity systems such as third generation, 3G, cellular telephone systems require a large infrastructure of more closely spaced cell sites in order to maintain communications within typical environments, where path losses are much greater than free space and which also require omni-directional access by the users.

GAO-03-986, Ambulance Services: Medicare Payments Can Be Better Targeted to Trips in Less Densely Populated Rural Areas
However, the modestly higher payments are unlikely to fully account for the higher cost per trip of low-volume providers, which are most likely to serve the least densely populated rural counties.
While supporting the principle of paying higher base rates to providers in rural areas where costs are high, the state EMS directors' and EMS physicians' associations were concerned that higher payments for rural providers could be at the expense of other providers.
BIPA required that, for miles 18 through 50 of a rural trip, the mileage rate should be increased by at least half as much as the mileage rate increase established for the first 17 miles of a rural trip.

FRB: Vehicle Leasing: Leasing vs. Buying: Mileage
The higher charges are often on more expensive vehicles because the decline in value for these vehicles is generally greater than for less expensive vehicles.
A higher mileage allowance, and the resulting lower residual value, should reduce the total rent charge because the average lease balance is reduced.
If you drive more miles than you expect, you will not owe the creditor for an excess mileage charge, but the vehicle will be worth less when you trade or sell it.

GAO also estimated that the people living within 1 mile of 54 percent of the metropolitan and 52 percent of the nonmetropolitan landfills had median household incomes that were higher than the incomes of residents in the remainder of the county.
For the census tracts encompassed within 2.5 miles of the facilities, the authors found the percentages of fls (24.7 percent) and Hispanics (10.7 percent) were significantly higher than the 13.6 percent for fls and 7.3 percent for Hispanics residing in the tracts without facilities.
Living 1 mile from one facility may be much different than living 1 mile from another facility, given differences in the types and volumes of hazardous waste handled and in humans' exposure to that waste.

Volatile market forces produce mixed cost indicators for food distributors
Prior to the 2004 survey, cost per mile had been relatively stable beginning a decline from $2.29 per mile for wholesale grocers in 2001 to $2.12 per mile in 2002, going back up slightly to $2.15 in 2003 and dropping once again to $2.01 for 2004.
Retail chain fleets lost their cost per mile advantage in 2004, rising above the $2.40 per mile they reported in 1999, which was a huge jump from the $1.80 per mile reported by supermarket fleets in 1998.
Miles per route, an important factor in transportation costs, have grown for retailers in 2004, but dropped at wholesale grocers.

We chose a midrange rate of $1.65/loaded mile to use in the transshipment model for lower quality alfalfa and $1/loaded mile for higher quality alfalfa.
We also assumed higher valued alfalfa would more likely be transported longer distances, thus reducing the cost per mile.
Therefore, it imports some higher quality alfalfa for its dairy demand (from Kansas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma), some higher quality alfalfa for its non-dairy demand (from Colorado and Kansas), and some lower quality alfalfa for its non-dairy demand (from Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, and Oklahoma).

Marginal costs for autos operating on rural Interstate highways are about 1.8 cents per mile (excluding air pollution and global warming costs) compared to about 9 cents per mile for operations in urban areas where their contribution to each of the various elements of marginal cost is greater on a per mile basis.
Even though pavements typically may be designed to higher standards in urban areas, the additional cost of resurfacing and rehabilitation in urban areas accounts for the higher pavement costs in urban than in rural areas.

 P.S. Protest No. 98-21, Janice Reilly, December 2, 1998
Her complaint that the comparisons to other routes was unfair was not valid because the solicitation requires only a vehicle less than five years old at award and less than eight years old during the contract term, not a new vehicle.
Similarly, although the protester contends that weather and road conditions warrant a higher price than shown in the comparables, the contracting officer notes that two of the five comparable routes (one of which requires a four wheel drive vehicle) are in the vicinity of this route and thus subject to comparable weather and road conditions.
Reilly contended that the fifth comparable, which had the lowest rate per mile, should not have been used because its rate per mile was more than 20% less than her rate per mile.

Higher Density Causes More Traffic Congestion - UrbanPlanet.org
As more vehicle miles occur in a confined geographical location (again, a requirement of smart growth or compact city strategies), traffic slows down and is subject to more "stop and go" operation.
The higher densities of urban areas outside the United States are associated with much higher traffic volumes per square mile (despite their usually far superior transit systems).
Vehicle hours per square mile are five times as high among the highest density urban areas compared to the lowest.

 mile training
Their thinking, of course, is that four tours of the track in lane one will add up to only 1600 metres, about nine meters short of a mile, while four trips in lane two will measure almost precisely a mile.
Of course, four trips in lane two would add up to 1631.6 metres, about 22 metres longer than a mile, which means that runners who complete their 'mile' repeats in lane two in a specified time are usually running too fast (they're covering about 1631 metres in the goal time allotted for 1609 metres).
One of the reasons for running at a goal speed is to develop great economy at that speed, so that you can run at a lower percentage of your VO2max at the hoped-for velocity; training at dissimilar paces won't develop that essential economy.

Online TDM Encyclopedia - PAYD Vehicle Insurance
One is to have motorists prepay for the miles they expect to drive during the term of coverage (typically a year), either in a lump sum or in several payments.
For example, some motorists might pay for 12,000 miles at the start of the term, while others might pay for just 5,000 miles at first and make additional payments as needed.
For example, if rural vehicles are driven an average of 18,000 miles a year, a rural motorist who drives their car “only” 15,000 miles annually would save money.

Motorists and modelers often assume that driving costs about 10¢ per vehicle mile, considering just direct vehicle operating costs, but there are additional mileage-related costs that average another 10-15¢ per mile.
Alternative modes are often slower than driving and some have higher per-mile crash rates, implying that TDM strategies that shift modes increase consumer time and risk costs.
