		The Milesians assume that the material principle of all things is that which underlies all change, and, as such, is itself necessarily unchanging.
		Thus for the Milesians, the material principle of all things is the most basic substratum that grounds all change, and does not itself change.
		This conclusion, however, puts the Milesian philosophers at variance with the testimony of their senses, which dictate that Being (what is) is many and constantly changing; in other words, this puts them in contradiction with the world of common sense.

		I believe the concept began as a reference to the Ionian philosophers and got transferred to an mythical school by analogy with the Milesian school.
		Referring to any group of philosophers whose only common attribute was geography as a school is misleading--they didn't all agree with each other, and were from several different time periods in Ancient Greece.
		In any case, grouping philosophers into schools is really a post factum job, chronologically speaking, so the concept of "school" goes beyond who they were and what they spoke/wrote/thought to include our contemporary interpretation of their philosophies.
